Why would you need an ask angie 2

  2. You can see the answer on Ask Angie 1. 😉

  3. noah

    daer angie
i have a question do you imagine the characters the way they are how mark zug does?

    • Angie Sage

      HI Noah,

Yes, they are just as I imagine them, which is brilliant. The weirdest things was when I fist saw the drawing of Sam Heap in the Magykal Papers – it was SO exactly as I imagined him, right down to the wispy beard. And I haven’t really described Sam anywhere… spooky. But in a good way.

  4. Angie i have a question,
HOw did Sep and Beetle become friends…
And are Sep, Beetle and, Jenna all the same age????

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Bekah,

Beetle is a couple of years older than Sep and Jenna. They met soon after Sep became apprentice. Beetle showed Sep around the Manuscriptorium. Sep was often sent on errands and they became friends over the next few months.

  5. Ella xx

hey angie i was wondering- where do you find magyk as in not in your books?? becaue everywhere is a bit of a vague answer….
    also when are you online??
and finally do you want to hear my answer for where i think magyk is??????
I think i’m allowed to ask all these questions and i hope you read this because i have a great answer for where i think magyk is found but i don’t want to write it 1. in case it gets deleted and 2. in case you don’t want to read it
    a replyy would be fantastic
    thank you
    from Ella

    • No emails allowed, Ella.

      • Ella xx

ok thanks for letting me know shauki 😀

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ella,

Apart from my books I am not sure where you do find Magyk. I suppose we all kind of make our own. But It’s an elusive thing…

I’m online every now and then – a bit more often now that I have finished the first draft of DARKE!

So . where do you find Magyk??? I would love to know!

  6. Drew

OK, someone might have already asked this, but approx. how long do you think DARKE will be when it is finished without the extras at the end?

    • Angie Sage

      HI Drew,

I have just finished the first draft of DARKE! That means I have written all the chapters but there is still a lot of sorting out to do. It has the usual 49 chapters but the average number of words is – I hope – a little less per chapter than in SYREN.

  7. Manna

If jimnee is supposed to guard the warrior jinne does thet mean he is no longer septimus’s jinne and wont grant him wishes

    • Angie Sage

Jim Knee is still with Sep, tho it turns out he hibernates in the winter. Both Marcia and Septimus a quite relieved about this. The Warrior Jinn are now safely back in their box and in the Secure room in the Wizard Tower.

  8. LeAnn

    Ms Sage,
This is my question: How did you come up with the name Septimus? I love the name I just cant find any referance to it in anything other than your books, when I think of names for my book I normally go to the Ancient Greeks and Romans. I also love the names for the other charactors aswell (like Marcia, Silas, and Zelda). Also, I would like to add that I love the charctor Jenna, she is absolutly magnificient.
    ~LeAnn

    • Angie Sage

      Hi LeAnn,

So pleased you like the names. They do just appear and luckily they fit the characters. I too love the ancient names – particularly Roman names.

Septimus is a real name – I do know someone called Septimus, although the book is not about him at all. I think it is quite an old name and was traditionally given to the seventh child. It means the seventh.

  9. LeAnn

I have another question, how old is Lucy Gringe in the beggining of the series? And are there any other blond females in the books? Besides Sarah Heap of course.

    • Phoenixia

Well, there’s Snorri Snorrelson, of course.

      • LeAnn

What color are her eyes, in Syren it says “Her green eyes flashed at Nicko” however in Phisik it states “Snorri’s light blue eyes shown out of the dark” so which is it?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi LeAnn,

Snorri is blonde but I think she is the only other one.

Lucy is – I think – about 16 when the series begins. Must check on that one…

  10. LeAnn

Sorry, I have one more coment. I think that Septimus and Jenna are a very cute cupple, same age and I thought of it in MAGYK when Sep saved Jenna from the Hunter by grabbing her hand and whisking her away to the safty of the Dragon Boat tunnel. I think that they should get together, in FLYTE he thought about her alot. She didn’t grow up with him so I don’t think she thinks of him completely as a brother, like she does Nicko. I think they would be good together.

    • Angie Sage

Yes, they do think about each other a lot. We shall have to see…

  11. Haridha

    Hi Angie,
Thank you so much for replying to my posts. It made my day- actually it had an effect on me for several days so thank you very very much. I hope Darke is coming along nicely.
    Haridha

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Haridha,

That’s great! I have just finished the first draft of DARKE – hooray. So I shall take a short break to get my head together and then go through it all checking that things work well and read well too. And then off it goes to HarperCollins!

  12. kalina

    hi Angie,
do you go on tour in Canada beacause me and 2 of my friends would be so happy if you did, mostly only if it was to Ottawa, Ontario. so will you ever be in Canada?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Katlina,

I’m not sure what is happening about a tour fro Darke, but I’ll keep in touch about that. Will see if I can make Canada!

      • Maura

PLEASE COME TO SCOTLAND!!!!!!!!!!! No one ever comes to Scotland.

  13. Kristy

    Dear Angie,
I really like your books. I’ve read all of them many times! I would like to ask :
Will Simon’s eyes turn green again or they will always be dark green?

Will Merrin Meredith turn super evil and turn into someone like DomDaniel?

I just can’t wait till April! 🙂 Tanks for making such a good series, Angie.

    • Angie Sage

      HI Kristy,

so pleased you like Septimus so much!

I expect Simon’s eyes will slowly change to reflect the changes in him.

Merrin – you’ll have to read Darke!

  14. Haridha

    Dear Angie,

I love your books. My question is- why are Aunt Zelda’s eyes blue? She does some Magyk like talking to the moon and making potions but in the first book you said that anyone exposed to Magykal learning will have green eyes. Is it because she is a witch? Thanks.

    Loads of love,
    Haridha

    P.S Good luck with Darke

    • Noelle

      It’s because she’s a witch, not a wizard!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Haridha,

As Noelle says, she is a Witch. Being a witch seems to be the more decisive thing with eye colour. Witches do funny things with their eyes…

  15. Jessica

Hi Angie I’m from Brazil and I love your books! I am writing here because I want to know where the other books in the Septimus Heap series such as Quest, Syren, magykal papers … will be launched here in Brazil! please answer me. already read the first three books in the series (magyk, Flyte, and Physik) and not wait to read the others!
    a hug
    jessica

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Jessica,

I will find out – I know that the first 3 books were all sold together, and then publishers had to decide whether to go on with the series. I will find out if my Brazil publisher has done so. I really hope they have…

  16. Noelle

    Hi,
I love your books SOOOOO MUCH! It’s really hard to get me into a book seires but, Septimus Heap just rocks! I didn’t like Harry Potter or any of the Twilight books! Ok, time for my question!
What country does the movie take place in? Is it in another demention? A different galaxy like star wars? where?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Noelle,

Yaay! So pleased you like Sep Heap so much.

We don’t know any details about the movie yet – they are still getting a good script together. I think deciding that will come at a later date. But I am waiting to see some visuals from Warner Brothers, which is really exciting. I will let you all know what they’re like!

  17. When you come up with the titles of the books do you write a little bit of the books at first to think of a title? or do you just come up with a title and write along with it

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Bekah,

For some of the books I had the title already, but for QUESTE and SYREN I had to write a fair amount of the story before I was sure. But for DARKE I knew before I began. At first MAGYK was just called SEPTIMUS HEAP. Each title has to be something that is important to Septimus – a skill or something he has to do or defeat…

  18. ryan

    Hi angie

in response to your answer to my question about elemental control i would like to ask
-What element does marcia specialise in?
and will spetimus heap ever learn an element?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ryan,

Marcia specialises in Air ( hence being able to breathe life into people).
I expect Sep will learn an element – not sure what he will choose…

  19. Ella xx

    HI!!!! um Ms Sage,
just wondering i know you said that the movie may or may not get the green light in August well hopefully if it does do you think that you will start auditioning fairly quickly or are there lots of other things to be sorted out???

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ella,

No green light yet… Warner Brothers have just asked to extend the option so that they can have more time to work on the development of the movie. So we will all have to be patient. It’s not easy waiting, but it’s best that they have enough time to get some really good things together.
The auditioning is not going to be until we’ve got that big green light – and that won’t be until everything is ready to go…

      • Maura

I heard that auditions had already been. 😦

        SHAUKI’S EDIT:
NO, THE MOVIE STILL NEEDS TO GET THE GREEN LIGHT. UNTIL THEN, THERE ARE NO AUDITIONS!

      • Maura, observe the rules! I already have like 10 comments of you in the trash. This page is for QUESTIONS ONLY! You are not Angie, to reply each question. You have the off-topic page and many other pages.

  20. SeptimusHeaplover

Is there something going on between Milo and Marcia? Romance wise, I mean. And did Marcellus Pye and his wife ever have any children, even though they weren’t supposed to? Thanks so much.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi SHL,

Marcia is, as you know, dedicated to her career and Milo is always going off somewhere. But as for romance, I am not really sure.

Marcellus and Broda’s children… I made a note to myself to check this out and I haven’t yet. I think that it going to get sorted out in book 7.

Sorry about the vague answers – I think it’s called keeping options open!

  21. Bookworm 1000

    Dear Angie,
I found something interesting in Queste, and i was wondering if you knew about this. For the Gathering to happen, all ghosts of the extra ordinary wizards need to be in attendance, but if Hotep-ra isn’t there thatn it shouldn’t happen, right????

I thought that, that was a little confusing, but even if Hotep ra isn’t a ghost then he should still be there, right?????

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Bookworm,

Ah, but Hotep-Ra is not dead, he is in the House of Foryx in a kind of Time limbo…

I don’t think he should be there even if he isn’t ghost. It is possible for ExtraOrdinary Wizards to retire and if they do they are not expected to attend a Gathering. It upsets current EOWs to have their predecessors there treading in their toes and making comments, which you can be sure they would – as in, “we didn’t do it like this in my day…”

  22. Hera

    Dear Angie,

I have just returned from a trip to Italy, and I saw there a city that reminded me a lot of the Castle. The city’s name is Siena. The city had a tower in the middle, and around the tower was a courtyard, just like the Wizard Tower. And also, there was a parade with boys dressed in a costume that reminded me of the Young Army uniform shown in the first book (only more normal). I really wanted to share these opinions. 🙂
So, my question is, how did you think of a world so complex without making it look very complicated?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Hera,

That’s really interesting to know. I have never been to Sienna, but I do fell that the Castle does kind of exist in places in a weird way. One day I must go and see. And how strange to see the parade, too.

I don;t think of the world all at once, it has grown slowly as I write. But somehow it just seems to be there, unfolding in front of me. And everything in it makes sense…

  23. Ella xx

    hi angie!!!
umm a quick question….where did Maxie go after the first book???

    • Angie Sage

Well, actually I have to confess that as I am not a dog kind of person, I did forget about Maxi a little. And then I remembered him in QUESTE, I think? He does appear every now and then. But he is old and smelly and sleeps a lot now.

  24. IAMPrincessJennaForever

    Dear Angie,

I am a big fan of your books, as are many other people are, of course 😀 I really enjoy reading your books, and read them again and again, for hours on end. Septimus Heap is now my official favorite book series, where before, other series have been my favorite. After I read Syren, it boosted Septimus Heap to the top 🙂

Thank you for giving me such enjoyable times while reading Septimus Heap.

    Thanks,

    Olivia

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Olivia,

Thank you! That’s lovely to know. Glad you liked SYREN, too.

  25. in the book syren did syrah syara die?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi, mickela,

No, she didn’t die, although it was close. She is recovering in the DisEnchanting Chamber in the Wizard Tower.

  26. heap fan

    Dear Angie,
I really love asking questions, because I know I will be answered even though you are so busy, so thank you for this wonderful oppritunity!
I am SOOOOO excited for April, just like everyone else on this site, and I have a few questions.
Are any major elements in the books based off of classic fairy tales?
And are we going to hear any more about Simon and Lucy?
Thank you so much for your time Angie, and remember that I am your #1 FAN!!!!!!- Heap fan

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Heap Fan,

I don’t consciously base anything on the classic fairy tales, but I do believe there is something in the idea of collective unconsciousness. I seem to be aware of things that I know I have never known about – if you see what I mean. I think this happens to us all. When I write Septimus classic ideas and motifs do appear, but not deliberately.

Yes, much more about Simon and Lucy in DARKE.

  27. Andrew

Can you give me a gist of Darke’s storyline?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Andrew,

DARKE is set in the Castle for a change. Merrin Meredith is getting more powerful and unleashes a Darke Domaine that threatens to destroy the Castle…

  28. LeAnn

I noticed something about many books is that somewhere in it it has a Romeo and Julete (sorry cant spell) senerio, including your books. Gringe and Silas resolve their differences quickly but only after their children tryed to marry each other. It’s rather commen and yet not so, funny really.

Also, How old is Snorri when she first shows up?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello LeAnn,

that’s an interesting comment, and yes its true – I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Snorri is 14 when she arrives.

  29. Nicola

Hi angie, i was just wondering, how many books do you think it will take to finish this series coz i finished the in less than two months series and i am hanging for darke to ome out… i just reelly wanna know how much longer i am gonna have to wait until i can find outthe end ot all his adventures… thanx sooo much andhave a happy day

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Nicola,

I wish I could write faster!! It takes a year to write each book as there is so much in them. The next one is out in April 2011 and then there will be one more. I will get down to writing that one fairly soon, but I am not sure when it is scheduled to come out.

  30. heap fan

Andrew, if she gave you ‘the gist’, it would ruin the story, not only for you, but for the others on this site reading all the questions and responses!

    • Andrew

I just want to know like what goes on the back of the book

      • Angie Sage

        Hi Andrew,

I think I probably gave you a bit less than was on the back of the book…

  31. heap fan

Snorri is about fourteen, I think, the same age as Nicko, whom, by the way, was really stupid to stay back in time for her.

  32. Dear Angie,
I have just finished reading Magyk for the 3rd time and now i have a question..
IN magyk when Sep is having his Apprentice Dinner Marcia says that Sep will be her apprentice for a 7 years and a day so after 7 years and a day passes will Sep become the Extra- Ordinary Wizard or can his Apprenticeship be remewed until Marcia retires from being the extra ordinary wizard????
that is my question i hope you can answer it
    thanks,
    Bekah

    • Bookworm 1000

I think that he can be the apprentice for longer than that but that is how long his training will last. I think that is right because didn’t Marcia already complete her apprenticeship and was still apprentice. I say this because she drew for the Queste and you only do that at the end of your apprenticeship. Well except for Septimus, but that was differrent.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Bekah,

No, you don’t become EOW automatically. There are quite a few people who do the Apprenticeship and never get the job. But once you’ve done the Apprenticeship there is always a possibility that you will be chosen as EOW.

  33. Hi Angie
Since I saw you in Perth, Australia in January I have nearly read all your books and in the middle of Syren. I am now on holiday in England and I would like to know if you are appearing at any book fairs in the next two months or so as I would love to see you again.
    Bart

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Bart,

I’m not planning on going to any book fairs until November, I’m afraid – and you’ll be back home then. If this changes or I find I’m doing some signings somewhere, I’ll post any details up on this site. How long are in England for?
I SO enjoyed Perth – I hope you are having just as good a time over here. Have a lovely summer…

  34. heap fan

Ella, Maxie was still around, but older, and he wasn’t as important. He mainly hung out with Silas.

  35. Lover of Books

Will Beetle and Jenna ever end up together?

  36. heap fan

    Ew, I hope not.
Angie, will sarah ever stop being unhappy?

    • Angie Sage

When she gets all her kids back under one roof – just for a little while. that is all she wants…

  37. I cant wait to see when (if) Marcia and Marcellus end up together

    • noah

not even going to happen he is 500 years old and Angie do you ever think about what would happened if snorri and Nicko stayed back in time??

    • Angie Sage

      eep

  38. Josiah Lance

    Dear Ms. Sage,
I was wondering, if in any part of your books,
will the whole Heap family be together?
Oh, and will Syrah resume her Apprenticeship after Septimus does?ope you answer my question…
Josiah Lance – YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Josiah,

I’m keeping lots of stuff for the last book, so I think wait and see is all I am going to say …

  39. Josiah Lance

Oh, and how will Beetle get his job back?

  40. amelia

    hi Angie
love the books i try to write story’s but i never can think of any ideas i try to Wright adventure comedy because that is what i love but i can never think about what to Wright can you give me any tips please?

  41. Lucy

I was wondering, what are Septimus & Jenna’s middle names?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Lucy,

Sep, like all the Heap boys, doesn’t have a middle name. Jenna takes the names of her mother and her grandmother, as is traditional.

      • Cindy

        Dear Angie,

Sorry, I couldn’t resist picking something out. In Magyk, when Merrin (known as “the Apprentice”) was following the Hunter, he had some “Illustrated Enemy Cards” that told him about his enemies. There it called Nicko “Nickolas Benjamin Heap”.

Isn’t Benjamin Nicko’s middle name? But I think you mentioned somewhere on this page that the Heap boys don’t have middle names? And is Nicko’s full name Nickolas?

        Thanks

  42. amelia

hi me again just asking who is your favourite character and who do you want to play each charactefr

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ameila,

I love ALL (or most) of the characters. Can’t really say I have a favourite…

And I don;t know about actors, although I do think Emma Thompson would make a great Marcia.

  43. WOuld the MAGYKAL powers for the 7th son of the 7th son be the same if it was a 7th daughter of a 7th daughter??

  44. IAMPrincessJennaForever

I don’t think so, because sons are supposedly “special”. It’s always been that way in books about magic. Well, usually.

  45. Bekah think of Perenelle.
Well, IAMPRINCESSJENNAFOREVER that kinda sexist dont’cha think, and Angie of course is a woman.

  46. dear angie, i just have one question, have or will septimus or jenna ever have feelings for each other?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Chelsea,

I think they already do a little. But I don’t know what they’ll do about it.

  47. Bookworm 1000

chelsea, I don’t think so because they have feelings for each other, but in a loving family way.

  48. Angie, what is Snorri’s accent (or at least like which accent)????

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Kayla,

I imagine her being kind of swedish-sounding. Scandinavian, anyway.

  49. Alexander

    Dear Ms. Sage,

I noticed that in your book Syren when Septimus is in the elevator room the Syren said something about ancient times or some such thing and I was wondering if the story takes place in the future and civilization has gone backward like in the book/movie “Battlefield Earth”, or is it in the past implying that civilization has already gone backward like in “Battlestar Galactica” (the 70’s version), please answer as I am extremely curious about this.

Also I was wondering if the reason Beetle acts differently when Jenna is around because he likes her (and not as a friend if you know what I mean)

    sincerely,
    Alexander

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Alexander,

Well, there are lots of things still to be discovered – and by me too as much as anyone in the book. We’ll all find out in book 7.

Yes, Beetle really likes Jenna and not as a friend. It makes him feel stupid sometimes and not know what to say.

  50. Nina

    Dear Angie,
I’d just like to say that you’re books are amazing.I am finishing Physik(only in portuguese) and I am crazy to read the others.Like the others comments in here,I have a question. The question is where did you get the idea of Sep being a seventh son of a seventh son and having special Magykal powers?I just love that idea!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Nina,

I’m not sure where the idea came from. It’s quite a traditional idea really, and I just wanted to make a world where those kind of things were important.

  51. Maura

    Hi Angie!
I know that Septimus, Jenna etc live in the Small, Wet (or Small, Damp, or Wet, Dark- sorry I can’t remember!) Country Across the Sea, but what country did you base it on? America mabye?
    Maura 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Maura,

I have to admit I based it on England where I live. It is very much a small wet country across the sea.

  52. Renzii

Dear Angie, will the time period of the books ever be revealed or will it alwasy be left to our imagination? Cause I sort of have theory about when it takes place but if I’m right I dont want to ruin it for everyone else…

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Renzii,

Well, i’m working towards all that in Book 7 – so no clues yet…

  53. Hi Angie,
this time I have 3 questions:
will Nicko and Snorri ever end up together?
when are Queste,Syren and The magykal papers be launched in Brazil?
is there any chance you’d come to Brazil?
    Thanks for your attention 🙂
    Nina

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Nina,

Nicko and Snorri – you will have to wait until DARKE…
I shall ask about what’s happening in Brazil, as I am not sure. Someone else asked me that too.
I don;t have any plans to come to Brazil – although it sounds an amazing place. But if I do I’ll post it here.

  54. Bookworm and Book Lover (and everybody else): this is a questions-only section. Do not chat or reply. Only questions for Angie. Observe the rules, please. 🙂

  55. Matteo

I really hope this message doesn’t get deleted, even though I realise that it’s not a qestion, but rather a message. I’m writing because this morning I woke up afterhaving actually dreamed of Sep and Beetle. This episode made me realise just how much I love these books and how much of my life is now linked to them. I am, therefore, writing to thank you, Angie, for providing something very similar (I have decided) to a voyage to a foreign planet with aliens on it – very friendly, funny and awsome aliens – and with only one difference, its much better than that.
So thank you again Angie, and pass on some of my thanks to Sep as well 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Matteo,

thank you, it’s a lovely comment. And I love going to that world too when i write. i shall pass on your thanks to Sep. And Marcia too …

I keep coming across references to the alchemy disaster, always related to the ice tunnels and how they have to remain sealed. What happened? Will any later books go into greater detail concerning the disaster?

  57. Zoe

    Angie,
Do you have any idea of the exact release date of Darke?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Zoe,

It is going to be early April in the USA, as far as I know. April in the UK too, although maybe a little later. we’ll do a countdown to publication nearer the time!

      • Alexander

My birthday is in April! I know what ill ask for now.

    • Angie Sage

      In April 2011!!

  58. Joachim

    Hi Angie,

I absolutely love the Septimus Heap series and was wondering if you could end me Septimus Heap Bookmarks or make a link for downloadable extra’s. Like you have on the Araminta Spook website

    Thanks
    Joachim

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Joachim,

Have you tried downloading the trading cards from the Sep heap website? Hmm … I;d better check they are still there. I’ll pass your comment on about downloadable things.

  59. Ella xx

    HIII Ms Sage!! 😀
ummm so i was wondering how old is Syrah???
hmmm and i always pictured Snorri as having a russian accent!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ella,

      I think Snorri has a scandinavian accent…

Syrah is of course about 500 years old. But she is stuck at being about 17…

  60. Ella xx

do you go on your facebook page very often????
because i’m on facebook….i’m Ella Hooper btw

thankyou for your time and patience xx

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Ella,

Um … no. But I will now! It’s hard to explain how writing just gets in the way of doing any kind of communication at all. But now I have finished DARKE, I intend to go onto facebook too…

  61. Hi again Angie!
This time I’d only like to say that my colleague is reading Magyk and he is loving it!!Oh and I’d like to ask:does the story happes in anny Europe country?I’m very curious abot that.
    Thanks for your attention!
    Nina

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Nina,

Well, I think Septimus has a kind of Northern European atmosphere to it – that’s what I imagine as I am writing.

  62. Bookworm 1000

    Hi Angie,
I know that I already asked this but I’m still wondering about it. In Queste, the gathering happens even though Hotep-Ra isn’t ther, but he should be there, right? I mean, he was the first Extra Ordinary Wizard.
    Thnx,
    Bookworm 1000

    • Angie Sage

Hello Bookworm – But he’s not dead… only the ghosts have to be there.

  63. Hello Angie 🙂
Were Sep and Jenna born on the same night??? And if they were then wouldn’t that kinda make them sorta twins but with different parents????

    • LeAnn

they were born the same night because Marcia had just saved Jenna when she gave her to Silas and Silas had left to get herbs becaus Sep had just been born.

  64. Hey Angie,

what would you compare Marcellus’s ‘strange accent’ to? i was thinking italian (or maybe even german), cuz he’s got a really roman-sounding name, but i’m not sure.

speaking of marcellus, now that he’s gotten his looks back (and i’m sure he very well knows it), could he, *maybe*, *possibly*, have a crush on someone…?

    thanks,
    Sara^^

    • Angie Sage

      HI Sara,

I think he has the same kind of accent that would have had in Tudor times. A bit of a drawl, I reckon. I could be mean and say the only person Marcellus has a crush on is himself (mieow) but I don’t think he has a crush on who you think he has…

  65. Maria

    Dear Ms. Sage,

You know, I think it’s odd (in an amusing way) that Marcia Overstrand and Marcellus Pye have similar names (I think they mean the same thing in Latin), physical appearances (curly dark hair, interest in pointy footwear, ect.), and in Physik you tell us that Marcellus is rather vain or was during his natural lifetime and Marcia is rather vain too (but in a very lovable way. Marcia has always been my favorite.) I was just wondering, are all of these things coincidences or is there some kind of meaning behind these similarities? I’m probably seeing too much into it.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Maria,

well, it does seem like a coincidence, I agree, but I think it is because it is fun to write. You see, as they are so similar, they are bound to clash and criticise each other’s faults without realising they have the same faults themselves.

  66. Jess O'Brien

I LOVE the twilight series and vampire diaries and percy jackson and people are asking what my favourite book is they think i’ll say twilight but i actually say “the septimus heap series because i love it so!

  67. Ethan

    Dear Ms. Sage,

When do they find Petroc Trelawney?(Or rather, will they find Petroc Trelawney?)
    Thanks,
    Ethan

  68. Angie I was just wondering,
are there any people with red hair in the Sep books???

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Bekah,

yes, Rupert Gringe has short spiky red hair. And so does his new girlfriend (but not short and spiky)

  69. avi

Dear Ms.Sage i was wondering when the characters get older. What i mean by that is do Jenna and Septimus get a year older in every book?
    Thanks for writing
    Aviana

    • Amyxx

i think the characters get a bit older in each 1 but at the end of physik it goes striaght in2 queste coz they r just about 2 resue nicko and snorri i think…

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Aviana,

They do get older, but not a year per book. They reach their 14th birthdays in Darke. I a still not sure how old they will be in the last book…

  70. avi

Ms. Sage I have one more question. Why does Jenna give Snorrie the cold shoulder becausse it really isn’t Snorrie’s fault, Nicko made the choice to stay back with Snorri.
    Thanks for your time.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello avi,

Well, there’s a little bit of jealousy I think, at seeing her brother care for someone else. And it;s human nature too, we do sometimes blame people for things that aren’t their fault…

  71. Dominc

    Hello Angie,
I am a huge fan of septimus Heap and have followed him everywhere i have read the books up to Syren once already and am currently half way through Physik(again but still loving it) and have noticed something. It may be my mistake but in Physik when Jenna gets the revive from Broda Pye that, i recall, is the last time the dragon boat is mentioned in the books upto 5. Has jenna simply forgot about the revive or do you have one of your wonderful cunning plans in wich you will revive the dragon boat. I hope so because i really miss her
    From Dominic
P.S: it may just be me forgeting since i haveonly read the books once and it was about a year since i did so:)

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Dominic,

You have found the one thing that I haven’t fixed properly (well, there are probably more, but this is the one that bugs me…) I had it planned for Queste but events took off in a totally different direction. But the Dragon Boat will be back in book 7.

  72. lorraine

    angie you know about alchemy?

  73. Aylin

    Ms. Sage,
Do Septimus and Jenna have feelings for each other?
    and
Do you need acting experience to audition for the movies?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Aylin,

They do really care about each other, but it is confused for them at the moment. I don’t know about the auditions (they are not happening yet as the movie is still in development). I suspect you don’t though.

  74. Ella xx

Hiiii Ms Sage ok so i was re-reading Magyk and i suddenly thought
what did Cerys originally call Jenna before she was shot??? because surely at Jenna’s coronation tto be queen she will have to be called her proper name won’t she????

    • Rachel

Jenna wasn’t named yet. Alther and Cerys were shot just as the Christening ceremony was about to begin. So Jenna is her proper name. Otherwise, wouldn’t they have told her her real name? THey did that for Sep, and he’s the same age, and had been known by another name(if you can call boy 421 a name) for the same time. Hope that helped!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Ella,

She hadn’t decided on a name. Traditionally baby Princesses are not named for six weeks. it is considered to tempt fate if you do that. Didn’t work that time though ….

  75. Ethan

    Dear Ms. Sage,

How many books are there going to be? And do you know if the characters get past the age of 13 in the series/
    Thanks
    Ethan

  76. Ethan

    Dear Ms.Sage,

What happens to the Sheild bug after Flyte?
    Thanks again!

  77. heap fan

Angie, I have a question. You sound like you have a lot to put into book 7. Will it be much longer than the others? And will the silver heiroglyphs on top of the WT be mentioned?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Heap fan,

Well, I want book 7 to be the same length as the others. I’ve put a lot of things in Darke and hope there is not too much to go in the last book. And YES, they will be mentioned!

  78. Ethan

Thanks for telling me, heap fan.

  79. Ella xx

    hiii angie
i was just wondering what does Jenna’s hair look like?? random question i know but in the first bokk it says that it’s straight and in the other books it says that it’s wavy

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Ella,

Does it? oops… Well i see it as dark, long with a very slight curl at the end. But not wavy as in curly.

  80. avi

    hi angie
I was wondering in the 5th book Syren, when Lucy, Wolfboy and the cat guy get into the red emergency boat wolfboy says that it looks like what the people a while ago used to use to get to the moon. Does this mean that septimus heap takes place in the future?

  81. lorraine

sorry for asking many questions but Septimus may dominate the darke magyk? and if so How and with??

    • Angie Sage

      hello lorraine,

It’s not about dominating Darke stuff, more about learning how to use it and live with it.

  82. Avani

    Hi Mrs. Sage!
I have a question. Is the sixth book going to be the last book of the series?

  83. 1 more question.
I just went thru with the question list. Sorry about my last question! How many books are you going to write? Thanks for your time.

    • Angie Sage

      hello avani,

they’ll be 7 in the main series, but I may write some others. Possibly one about marcia when she was younger.

      • Diana

It would be so cool if there was another book to explain what happens and who they marry and how many kids they have an stuff. Just please don’t do what Suzanne Collins did at the end of Mockingjay. Granted the ending was sweet and made my heart flutter it was still painfully vague!

  84. Joachim

    Hi Angie,
I want to Write books one day. Could you please give me some tips
    Thanks Joachim

  85. Joachim

    Hi Angie,
I want to Write books one day. Could you please give me some tips on writing good maical books

    Thanks Joachim

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Joachim,

there are some writing tips on my website. But I’d say read lots and do all the things you are interested in. Writing is something that gathers your life experiences together, so don’t start too soon on the big stuff. But every day it’s good to write something down. Just note down what you see, or a thought that occurred to you … anything at all to get into the habit.

  86. LeAnn

I’m writting my own book and I wanted to know if you found it surprising of all the fans you have on here. How they are all interested in what you have to tell us. I guess my question is how did you think this website was going to turn out when you started it? As in did you expect this many people to join?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello LeAnn,

Well, someone really great called Shauki started it. And yes, I am surprised and it’s lovely!

  87. alexis

    hello there!

    im itching 2 know about something n i hope some1 can give a hint or 2… =)

    i was thinking who might b Jenna’s husband…?
i read Flyte again d other day n notice some lines saying bout jenna’s daughter ran into d ancient ghost, Godric on her scooter…

    this kept me thinking.
    who might b d father of Jenna’s daughter…
n another thing, who might b Septimus’ and Nicko’s partner?

i know its too early to think about this, but i feel sad when Septimus gonna end wif d 7th book.
    *sigh*

thank u sooo much 4 septimus heap!! ^_^

    • Angie Sage

I am not sure who they are all going to end up being with. They are still young and its too early for them to know, I think. But yes, Jenna will have a daughter… Maybe I’ll write a book about them when they are say 10 years older after the main series. We’ll have to see. I too feel a bit sad about it all ending …

  88. niklas

    hi angie,
    im from germany
i have all septimus heap books and i love the books
    here is my question:
what does the x at the end of the letters mean ??
    (like …bye jenna xx)

    • LeAnn

well I always thought of xoxoxo as in Hugs and Kisses. Then again, I doubt Sep. or Jenna would say it so, huh. I wonder…..

    • Angie Sage

      Hello niklas,

they are shorthand for kisses. One x for each kiss. And as LeAnn says below, o are for hugs but I am not sure if they do that.

  89. LeAnn

So I was reading Syren, and I noticed that I had them talking in an English accent and I was thinking:

Do the actors have to have a type of accent? Whatever accent that may be. I mean if your Snorri is Scandanavian (or whatever) would the actress that plays her have to be Scandenavian too?

Also, are the Heaps and co supposed to be Brittish, or something else entirely, or did it just end up that way (in my head or in the book)?

Well thars all, I love the books, I wish there would be another sub-series so the magyk wouldnt die at the end of the seventh book. I’m probably beinng dramatic, oh well. 🙂

    ~LeAnn

    • LeAnn

      I meant thats, not thars

    • Angie Sage

      Hello LeAnn,

I am thinking about some kind of sub-series (I like that phrase.)
Accent-wise… for the movie I don’t know what they will choose for accents. Of course I do think in an English accent as that is how I talk, and so when I think of the characters speaking, that too is how they talk. And Snorri definitely has a scandinavian accent.

  90. Rachel Elizabeth

Hi big fan… just fineshed Syren.
i was just wondering how long did it take u to write the first book.
and hot did u get it published.
    thank you.

    Rachel Elizabeth

    • Angie Sage

      Hi,

It took me about 18 months to write MAGYK as I was still learning a lot about writing a novel.
I had already written quite a few shorter books so I had an agent, which made it much easier to find a publisher. In fact it didn’t take long at all – but that is very unusual and it had certainly never happened to me before!

  91. Chloe

    Hello Angie,
Do you know if you are going on tour in the south east of England?
It would so AMAZING if I could meet my favourite ever author.
Keep up the incredible work, I am absolutley in LOVE with the series

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Chloe,

That’s where I grew up! I want to do some kind of tour for Darke when it is publsihed in April so will keep you posted on this site. Definitely want to come to kent and sussex.

  92. Maria

Someone may have asked this before and I want to apologize for asking it if they have but…if you could meet any character from the series who would it be and why? Thank you so much!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Maria,

I’m not sure if anyone has asked me that … such a tough question to answer. It would have to be Septimus, i think. Or maybe Hotep Ra. There’s a lot I want to ask him….

  93. Lau

    Hello Angie,
    Thank you for your answers,
but I would like to ask again. 😀
How did Merrin’s mother and father meet? How old is he in Darke? Will he get a new job? because (I think) he isn’t that kind of person, who can work in the manuscriptorium.
Cause lots of people (maybe 2?) ask about the seventh book, i just would like to know that he will get somekind of part. ( not his part, but just he will be in the next next book 😄 )
    Can jenna find Petrock?
    Will Snori meet his father?
oh.. Will Lucy and Simon get married?

    • i would like to add something: will jenna ever meet her mother’s ghost?

      • LeAnn

when the Time Is Right, or so they say. I was hoping that too.

      • where does it say that?

      • LeAnn

on page 168 of Physik, Alther is talking to Cerys- trying to figure out where Septimus and Jenna are. She says they went the “Queen’s Way” he says:

….. “You know, Cerys, you should get out more. It’s not good for you being stuck in this turret all the time. And you should think of Appearing to young Jenna. I know it’s a big decision but…”

She replies with: “I shall Appear when the Time is Right, Alther,” …..

So there you go, hope I was helpful (by the way, I didn’t automatically know that, I had to skim through all the books to find it.) 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Lau,

You will have to wait until Darke and book 7 for lots of your answers!
But Merrin is there and he does get kind of sorted out. His mother and father? Well, his mother isn’t telling, so i don’t know. She’s an odd woman.

  94. Cailey Weaver

Hello Ms. Sage, My name is Cailey Weaver, I am 12 years old and I am an avid reader. I have read Septimus Heap up until Physik. I am waiting for Syren to arrive at my house. I can’t wait to see the Septimus Heap movie because when I read I can almost see a movie in my head. I hope that my visions are similar to yours. I have heard that you are going to write more about each of your main characters. I was wondering if you could give me advice on books to read. I have read all of harry potter, narnia, series of unfortunate events, Eragon, and Rangers apprentice,(except for the 9th one). I also was wondering if you could write a book,(or at least write about it in one of your other books) about giving back to your community and also helping the earth. I am trying to spread the word about this stuff. When I saw all the fans that you have, I thought that if your readers saw that you care aboutthe earth, they might do something to help it. I try my best to help my community and this planet by recycling, reusing, and I also volunteer at a nursing home every Monday. I also have trained my dog to be a therapy dog and she is going on her second visit to Menorah Manor on September second. You are a great writer and I hope that you will consider my question. For now, happy writing and I wish you many great ideas. I hope I will hear from you.
    Yours truly,
    Cailey Weaver

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Cailey,

Thank for your message! You could try reading a very old series by Mervyn Peake called the Gormenghast trilogy.
You sound like you’re doing a lot of good things. I hope the Septimus books have some good stuff in them too, but i don’t like to use them to give specific messages as that means the characters no longer have free will, which is important in a book. But overall I hope that the message that comes from them is a good one…

  95. miss angie how did you find mark zug?

  96. sorry the above question is the wrong question. don’t answer tht. but why did it take you 2 years to produce the sixth book while the other books took 1 year to produce?

    • Angie Sage

Well, when I began MAGYK it was about 3 years before it got published – and as it takes at least a year to write a book by book number five I had run out of leeway.

  97. how did you find out that you were goin to write septimus heap books?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Herman,

I had had the story in my head for a long time, but it took a while to get the skills to write it…

  98. hi its me again i have another question: will the hieroglyphs on the wizard tower ever be translated and revealed? also who is the main enemy in the whole series? is it simon, tertius fume, or merrin?

    • also will simon ever get back sleuth?

    • Angie Sage

There isn’t a main enemy in the series. It’s a bit like life – people come up against bad stuff in various forms. It is not written on classic fantasy lines, it’s more about people really.
      Hieroglyphs in the last book!

  99. another question (i have so many questions!) why are guns mentioned in the books (bk. 1-3) in a magykal world?

    • Angie Sage

The level of technology in the series is that of just before the Industrial Revolution. About late 1600’s. They had muskets then. In fact 150 years before that, Henry VIII had a hunting gun…

  100. why is there a gun mentioned in the magykal world (books 1-3)?

  101. Maria

Was Alther not allowed to marry Alice because he was EOW or was it just because he was too busy and she was too busy? Are EOWs like Keepers? Can they marry or would they have to give up their position to do it?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Maria,

he was too busy. He put his work before Alice. Actually, she was pretty busy as a judge too. EOWs can marry, but most don’t.

  102. Darren

I was wondering what it is about alchemie that bothers Marcia so much. What made her dislike it? And does Marcia really hate Marcellus? They actually seemed to be getting along well in chapter thirty-seven of Queste. Just wondered.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Darren,

Marcia does not approve of anything that is not real Magyk. She doesn’t approve of witchcraft either. She also does not like the competition and in the old days in the Castle, Alchemie was very important. It also brought about some bad things…

Marcia and Marcellus do get on well now that Marcia accepts Marcellus too wants the best for Septimus, but sometimes the rivalry surfaces…

  103. Emily

Hi Angie, I realize that you have alredy answered this in the past in response to other questions, but what exactly is supposed to happen in Darke. It’s just driving me crazy to wait. thanks so much -Emily

    • anti-sag

      i can wait long enough

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Emily,

this a a really mean answer, but you will have to wait! I would spoil it if I told you and then you’d not enjoy the book. Shauki will post my latest letter which has some clues.

  104. Kieran

    Dear Angie

I was recently introduced to Magyk – your wonderful books. I am 12 years old and I really loved it. I now have all of the other ones. Dear Angie, do you know if you will be doing any signings in the near future. Would you please sign my books for me if I come along with my mum. Thing is I’m not sure where or when your next signings will be. I would be so happy if you would do this for me. Please would you let me know. – Kieran Jay

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Kieran,

I’ll post all info about signings here. I haven’t done any recently as I’ve been writing. I’m at the Bridport festival in Dorset on Saturday 6th November (if you live in England…)

  105. wizard

Hi Angie!I love you books and i want know how many pages are in THE MAGYKAL PAPERS and do you know when it´s coming to finnish?Or when DARKE are coming on finnish?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Wizard,

I will ask! Actually I am coming to helsinki next week. More details soon. Darke is not published anywhere yet, though.

  106. yo

i know this is a silly question, but my sister and i, (who are HUGE fans) have this ongoing arguement on how to pronounce Marcia’s name. She says it is ‘Mar-SEE-a’, while I say it is ‘Mar-shuh’. Just to prove her wrong, how is it supposed to be pronounced?

    • LeAnn H

I call it mar-SEE-uh and my mom calls her mar-SHUH so I want to know what it really is too

    • Angie Sage

Sorry, yo – your sister is right. Except I accent the first syllable. MAR -see- a. but that is just the brit way of saying it, that’s all. It’s fine to say the name any way you like.

  107. Anna

    Dear Ms. Sage,
I love ur books so, SO high, like THIS big, well i quess I cant show u on my PC, but still I have only red three of the books and started on the fourth, I come from a cold land a little way to north and I was wondering if Septimus ever was in a very cold land with snow and Ice, The Icetunnels to not count.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Anna,

It was pretty cold when he went to the House of Foryx. You will read about that in book 4!

  108. Manna

since nico is back from the past will he get his apprenticeship back

  109. miranda

Hello Angie. I have read tons and tons of books, and i must say your series is very good. i just finished reading Syren. And i was wondering…where do you find the names you hvae for your characters? for example, where did you find the name Septimus?

    • Angie Sage

The names just appear from nowhere… if they feel right then I know who the character is straight away. Names are just about the one thing I don’t have to think about. Septimus is a traditional name for a seventh son.

  110. heap fan

    I always said it MAR-SHEE-UH. . .

  111. niah

    Hi Angie
I just want to say thank you that you wrote those books my life is simply difrent now! THANKS!

  112. Lyla

What dates are Septimus, Jenna, and Marcia’s birthdays? Thanks.

    • Angie Sage

Jen and Sep are Decmeber 21st. Marcia … I can’t remember offhand. Sometime in the summer, I think.

  113. Cailey Weaver

Hi Ms. Sage, I was wondering if you could tell me how old sep is in Syren. Thanks Cailey Weaver.

  114. Dear ms.Sage
Hi I know your bissy and all that stuff but I want to ask you one more question, I was wondering where you found the charter Snorri, I think she rocks, she’s one of my favorites same with Alfred and Martha 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hello ILove Snorri,

She just turned up. And I did think we needed another girl in there too.

  115. ILoveSnorri

    Umm, Hi!
Its me, again I just want to thank you a billion times for writing the book, but I also like the drawing’s in it, do you write them yourself? If you do, you got a lot of talent,

    • Angie Sage

      Hi there again,

thank you – yes, they are all my own words… and the drawings are all Marks Zug’s lovely lines.

  116. jenna

    dear angie,
i know and i am very exited that you are making a movie on the first book, Magyk.
so here’s my question: in most movies that are based on books they change some things, and add some things, so is the movie Magyk going to be somewhat different from the book?
    thanks,jenna

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Jenna,

Well, a movie is a different medium and needs different things to make it work, so I am guessing there will be … differences. But I think it will still be true to the spirit of Septimus.

  117. Tanya

First of all, I want to say how much I LOVE your books! You are such a creative writer!
For all the characters that weren’t in the first book, like Snorri, Beetle, etc. did you know that you were going to write about them in the future when you wrote Magyk? Or did you come up with those characters as you wrote the series? Also, who is your favorite character?

    • Angie Sage

      Thank you!

No, I didn’t know I was going to write about them until they turned up. That’s what I find so exciting about Septimus, and why it works too, I think. it is a bit like life – people just appear and do stuff!
I really don’t have a favourite character though. I love so many of them…

  118. Lauryn

I’ve got a lot of questions, so prepare yourself. 🙂
    1. Have you ever thought of putting Septimus Heap into Manga?
    2. Are we ever going to meet Marcia’s parents? I can imagine a pretty funny scene if we do.
    3. What is Eradicated for ghosts?
    4. Are we going to be traveling further North in Darke? What is up there anyway?
    Thanks lots!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Lauryn,
      1. YES! I’d love to. Something I’d like to think of when i’ve finished the series.
      2. I’d like to write a separate book about Marcia when she was younger.
      3. I am not sure – I don’t think that’s in the books? But you can Banish them. As you will see in Darke.
      4. No, we won’t travel far in Darke. it;s a Castle book. We do go to Bleak Creek though.

      • Rachel Emily

Angie, for number 3, it is. In Syren pg 593, top two lines,”As I said, I will not tell you again. But I will tell you this , Fume. I shall be taking steps to eradicate you. Good day” So I hope we’ll find out in book 7….

      • Rachel Emily

Or does it mean the same thing? (banished, eradicate)

      • Lauryn

Marcia said she would be taking steps to Eradicate Tertius Fume at the end of Syren? That’s where I heard it.

  119. Darren

What is the “alternative” for ghosts? Also, I don’t remember, do ghosts “pass through” each other or do they feel solid to one another?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Darren,

not sure what you mean by alternative?
They do Pass Through each other and no, they don’t feel solid.

      • Diana

In one of your books Alther said that at times he disliked being a ghost, but that it was better than the alternative. I don’t know which book that was because I haven’t re read anything except Syren and Magykal Papers recently.

      • Diana

It was in Magykal Papers on page 78 in Alther’s biography.

  120. Elisa

    Dear Angie:
Just to begin with i LOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE SEPTIMUS HEAP SERIES!!! At first i wasnt a very big book fan but then my best friend told me about your book series and i started to read it and i fell inlove with them!!! They are the BEST!!! My question is what will happen between Jenna and Beetle? Will they just be friends? also will Syrah Syara show up in “Darke”? or will she stay in a endless sleep? Also do you think the auditons will be open auditions i know were not supposed to ask that but i reaaally think i could have a chance if i auditioned but that is up to the directors 🙂 Big kisses and hugs
    Elisa YOUR NUMBER 1 FAN!!!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Elisa,

So pleased you like Sep so much!
lots of your questions will be answered in Darke…

I don’t know a thing about auditions… they are not doing them yet as the movie is still in development. Nearer the time, when it gets the green light, I will try to find out about this and post it on the site.

  121. Rachel

Hi Angie! There are a few things I’d like to find out about in the sixth and seventh books…
1)What is the Great Alchemie Disaster?
2)Does Beatle get his job back?
3)Does Simon get to go back to the castle?
4)Does Merrin insist on being evil?

I know you have already written Darke, but could you tell me if any of these questions are answered in Darke? Thank you!!!

And I love the series- and i think it would be great if after you finish the series you write another book like Magikal Papers that fills in all the loose holes. Good luck on writing the seventh book!!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Rachel.

Great questions… 3 are answered in Darke. The fourth will be in book 7. An that is all I shall say…

yes, I think there will still be things to say at the end of the series. But in the end everything will be sorted out…

  122. Darren

Oh sorry. One more quesiton. Wouldn’t it be kind of odd for Sarah and Silas if Jenna and Septimus got together? They think of them both as their kids so wouldn’t that be gross for them? It would be like me marrying my sister, wouldn’t it? Would the general public even accept a relationship between Jen and Sep? It just seems so wrong……

    • Angie Sage

      Hi darren,

it’s a tricky one. But of course they are not related and they didn’t grow up together either. But yes, it would be weird for Silas and Sarah.

  123. Matteo

Dear Angie (How should I – we – call you: Angie, Mrs. Sage, Madame Sage, Angie Sage???)

I have been writing a list of questions that have been talked about but not answered in the previous Sep books and realised just how many there were, I hope you can answer them all in two books. It would be a pitty if you couldn’t. but yet again you could write an epilogue if you couldn’t, which would be eaven better.

finally a question very similar to the ones above (if you don’t have time just answer one of them, and that would be great.)

    does EVERYBODY become a ghost????

    thank you for your time

    Matteo

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Matteo,

      Angie is just fine!

Yes, everyone can be a ghost if they want to. But not everybody does want to…

  124. Beatrice

    Dear Angie,

I must say I am huge fan of your books! I just love Septimus Heap books, they are the best!!! And I would love you to answer these questions…
How old is Syrah Syara? will she show up in Darke? and when somebody becomes a ghost, he stays like a ghost forever?

    Thank you very much

    Beatrice

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Beatrice,

      Thank you!!
Syrah is about 17. She does show up in Darke but she is not in a state to do much.
Yes, you can stay a ghost forever, but you fade over time.

  125. Rachel

Dear Angie, I noticed in an earlier comment that you said that Darke might come out earlier in the U.S. than the U.K. Why? If you live in England, wouldn’t it come out in England first? Or is it that your publishers are based in America and the book is released there first because of that? (sorry, last sentence was horrible grammar, I know.) Thanks!

Also, Shauki as site manager, do you check all the comments, because when we first submit it they say Your comment is awaiting moderation, but a little while later they disappear. If so, its a big job, and Angie is lucky to have you!!

    • Hi Rachel,
yes, I check all the comments because I don’t want spam messages or people that ask Angie stuff that they should not ask. 😉
Angie, although she lives in England, is under contract at HarperCollins US (Bloomsbury is just the UK publisher – Angie signed the contract with HarperCollins when she first published Magyk). This is why Darke will be published earlier in the US.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Rachel,

you got it! My main publishers are HarperCollins in the US, so they bring the book out first. But it is only a matter of a few days.
Yes, I am VERY lucky to have Shauki!

    • Angie Sage

Well, I have since heard from Bloomsbury (my English publisher) that they are not bringing DARKE out until October because that is a good bookselling time of the year. I am really sorry to tell you this…
Also I now know that DARKE will not be out in the USA until June 1st. You could always buy the US edition on Amazon in June.

  126. Reader 316

    Hello Angie
I don’t know if my first post was removed (why I have no idea) But if it was I’ll ask the question agian (and hope that it stays). Is there going to be a sample chapter for Darke (if this is deleted I will not post this question again). A humble reader

  127. Rachel Emily

Dear Angie, in Queste, it says that if Jillie Djinn denies access to the vaults, Marcia’s stuck. (pg. 442) But in Syren, it says that Jillie Djinn cannot deny access.(pg. 290-292) Which one is it?
Speaking of Djinn, I hope she gets her comeuppance, because Beetle is my favorite character, and it serves her right for sacking him!

Also, in Queste, Jenna leaves her key in the door to the lobby. is it gone forever, lost in the house of Foryax, or does she somehow get it back? Thank you, and good luck on the seventh book! (sorry if i misspelled anything. Spelling is not my strong point)

    • Angie Sage

      Dear Rachel,

Oh crumbs – does it? I thought I’d fixed that. Sometimes in editing (especially of the earlier books) there are discrepancies which i think I have fixed and haven’t. I will check this out. You will find a lot about Jillie Djinn and Beetle in Darke.

Jenna leaves her key in the lobby…

  128. TJ

    Dear Angie,
I am a huge fan of your books and they have inspired me (along with other books) to be an author. I have wanted to be and author for years, if you could give me advice on how all of it works (it being the process of writing a book and getting it published) I would be VERY happy.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Tj,

this is a big, big question! Too big to be answered right now. But really you just have to begin, there are some writing tips on my website – angiesage.com

I will post something more detailed about writing when I get a moment… Good Luck!

  129. megan

hi Angie, im new to your books but they are really great i was just wondering im not able to read your third book yet because im home schooled and dont have a library card but will Simon ever show up again?? thanks

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Megan,

Do you have a public library near you? They are great places to find things if you do…

But if you don’t you can always write to me at HarperCollins USA.

Yes, Simon does show up again. Quite a lot!

  130. kalina

do you have a name that is your favorite? and who do you relate to the most?

    • Angie Sage

A lot of the names I really like. Alther Mella is fun as it is totally made-up by feels so right.

I think I probably relate to marcia the most.

  131. megan

who’s your favorite character in the books?

  132. megan

do you know when darke is coming out in united states??

    • Rachel Emily

She says above that it is coming out in April for both the US and the UK. (in fact, its actually coming out earlier in April in the us than is the uk)

    • noah

yes i do cuz and im preordering it in a few days and hiiii

    • Angie Sage

Hello Megan – no favourite character, but i love all the main ones. Darke will be out in April.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Megan,

      1st June 2011…

  133. I was wondering what has become of “The Dragon Boat?” I too love your books! I can’t wait for the movie and the next book, take care.

    • Angie Sage

      hi,

well, see an earlier answer… the Dragon Boat will return in book 7. She has been gone too long!

  134. Ethan

    Dear Ms. Sage,
Is there any new characters in any of the new books that are coming out?
Thanks! I also want to ask about book six. Will Tertius Fume come back?
    Bye!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello nathan,

I don’t think there are any new characters in Darke. Yes, Tertius Fume starts all the trouble in Darke. But after that we don’t see too much of him.

  135. clarabell

in english/literature we have to wtiea letter to someone for a project to make a block letter. And it has to be a complaint of to sometihng we like. (of course I am writing for something I like) So if I write to you, what adress would you like me to write to you? And if you respond i get extra credit, so please respond, cause i kinda need it. And the letter will have the name Clare Vonderhaar.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Clarabell,

you can write to me at:
      Angie Sage, Author Mail,
      HarperCollins Children’s Books
      10 E 53rd St, New York, NY 10022-5002

It may take a while to reach me though, but now I am through with Darke I will reply as soon as I can!

  136. Skye

    Dear Angie,
Hi, first of all I love everything about your books from the Hole in the Wall Tavern to the beautiful castle. I would like to know what is the most fun character to write about and why?
    Thanks,
    Skye

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Skye,

      Thank you!

I think the most fun to write is Marcia when she is snappy with someone – Aunt Zelda or marcellus or Silas… she makes me laugh, even though i’m writing it.

  137. niah

    Dear Shauki
you probably dont know that but when is QUESTE going to be in Slovenian language?

  138. Maura

    Hey Angie!
Hope you’re doing well with the writing. That’s it, no questions, WOOHOO!!!!! 🙂
    Maura

  139. Maura

    Ok I do have one…
Did you base any of your characters on real people, even just a little bit?
    Maura 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hell Maura,

No, they just arrive as they are. Although now I wonder whether Marcia might be based on someone I once shared a flat (an apartment) with…

  140. Lyla

Are there going to be any weird couples in the books? Like unexpected couples. Like maybe Syrah with Beetle or Wolf Boy with Lucy? There are some odd fanfictions out there. I even saw a Septimus/Marcia before. Really gross. I know you’re not going to do anything that irrational but I just wondered if there might be some unexpected couples like the two I listed above. (Syrah/Beetle and WB/Lucy) thanks!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Lyla,

ew – Marcia and Sep is not good. No unexpected couples except for Wolf Boy possibly.

  141. ok i have a question that has been bugging me for a while now:
since Syrah was POSSESSED for so long and it never was like she aged wouldn’t all her years catch up to her and she would age quickly and just die????? becasue it would make a lot of sense because a human body system wouldn’t really last that long… so wouldn’t her body get really exausted and then bye bye syrah???
SOrry but this is bugging me right now so thanks,
    Bekah!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Bekah,

When you are possessed everything stops. Yes, of course what you say makes more sense, but some things in Sep’s world can be different. Syrah is very weak though…

  142. oh wait i got another questioin!!!: what happens to the bodies after the ghost goes out of them???? do they just disappear or do people bury them????

  143. Lau

I have other questions. (again) When was Merrin born? (day, month)
Do Septimus and his family celebrate christmas? Do they get presents too? (I don’t know why but i have christmas feeling) Merrin sometimes seems very lonely so.. he will ever make a true friend?

    • Alex

I think the first book says something about when he was born in the extras part at the back, and I personally think Merrin and Septimus will go through some life endangering situation and become best buddies or at least good friends, just because it would be an interesting twist to the storyline(and a good ending, too). Merrin might even find his mother in the Inn that she runs.

    • Rachel Emily

Well, i do know he is born three months before jenna and septimus. hope that helps!

      • Angie Sage

oops, was it three months before? Must check. He is older but still young enough to be mistaken for a new born by someone who doesn’t know much about babies. 3 months makes more sense…

    • Angie Sage

Merrin was born about 6 months before Septimus.
They celebrate a MidWinter Feast in Sep’s world on the same day as Christmas would be. They have a small present each.
Merrin is lonely – and sad too. But he has to sort himself out before he gets any friends. You’ll see what happens to him in Darke.

  144. Amalie

will merrin ever except who he is? also, if merrin were raised by his real mother would he be any nicer?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Amalie,

yes, I think Merrin would have been much nicer if he’d been raised by his mother. he had a truly awful time with DomDaniel.

    • Angie Sage

I think Merrin will accept who he is one day – but he needs to believe it first. And that needs him to be with his mother.

  145. Lily

Who does Septimus have a crush on if anyone?

    • Angie Sage

He rather liked Syrah, but she scared him too. I think the most important person for him at the moment is jenna.

  146. Brendan

Hi I really love the books.

I have a couple of questions, with Roman and Egyptian is the Septimus Heap like some sort of alternate reality of this world? And why do Wizards eyes change to green when Magyk is purple? How did you come up with all the different names for the places and people, like Queen Etheldredda where did her name come from? Where did the idea for Wolf Boy come from?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Brendan,

It’s a different reality, but based in this world.
Magykal people’s eyes change to green just because they do. It’s a sign that they have enough magykal power to do stuff.
Names … they just appear. I really do not know where it all comes from!
Often I find out about things after I have written them and discover that there are similar things around. It just comes of soaking stuff up, I think. Possibly far too long spent wandering around daydreaming when I was younger. I don’t know where Wolf Boy came from, although there are many legends of children being looked after by wolves.

  147. Anna

    Dear Angie,
I’m sure someone has asked this before, but when and where does the series take place? I would LOVE to know.

    • Rachel Emily

Anna, Angie said in an earlier comment that she likes think of it as England. And, about the time, though I can’t really say, I have a theory that its sort of like a world that had science and stuff, but then regressed back into like the middle ages. I think this because in Syren, Wolf Boy, when he sees the Tube, mentions stories about people flying to the moon in things like that. I know the tube is a submarine, but maybe wolfboy means a rocket? Anyway, that’s just my theory, so I hope that helps, and Angie, please correct me if I’m wrong.

      • Angie Sage

        Hello Anna and Rachel,

Well, I am keeping some things back for the last book, but I think of the world being a little as it was in England in the late 1600s but with Magyk instead of science.

  148. Timmy

What month is Darke coming out in the United States?

  149. Hannah

I have lots of questions. Will Jillie Djinn ever see that she is totally unreasonable and give Beetle his job back? I just feel so bad for the poor kid. Are Lucy and Simon techincally married or do they have yet to get married? Are Marcia and Marcellus going to get together? And does Septimus like Syrah or Jenna better? Or do we not know yet? Thanks.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Hannah,

Wait until Darke! Lots about Jillie Djinn and beetle in there. Yes, Beetle has had a rough time…

Lucy and Simon are not properly married yet.
I haven’t really paired anyone off yet, but I think Marica and Marcellus would lead to trouble. Big time.

Sep did like Syrah, but in Darke he gets closer to jenna. But who knows what the future holds…

  150. Lisa M.

Someone may have asked this before but I don’t completely understand why Wolf Boy had to get the tentactle to become Keeper. Kind of seemed odd to me. Oh yeah, and I noticed that a lot of people on here seem to think that Septimus and Jenna are going to become a couple and that Marcellus and Marcia are going to become a couple as well. I really hope that Septimus and Jenna end up falling in love because they would be so cute! Marcellus and Marcia is just disgusting though. Please don’t ever write that pairing, Angie. Marcellus is too nice for Marcia. But I have to ask. Is there any Septimus and Jenna….romantic stuff in darke? That would be so cool.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Lisa,

I do agree about the M&Ms. Not good. And Jen and Sep? I don’t know yet. We will have to see what they do.

  151. ERTO

Would Marcellus and Syrah ever consider being a couple?

  152. Ethan

I’m pretty sure it is coming out in April 2011…

  153. perry

Dear angie when you wrote this book what gender did you have in mind cause im thirteen and i find that me and my brother are the only guys that think this series is awesome so i wanted to know who you wrote it for boys girs or both
best regards a wondering heap fan

    • perry

Dear SB or shauki i just noticed that it said at the top of this page that angie would be checking the blog weekly but i havent seen her post for at least two months is there any technical diffuculties
      An “Extra Ordinary” Fan

      • Dear Perry, Angie is very very busy working on the second draft of DARKE!

      • Angie Sage

        sorry perry,

I should not have said that… I have been so busy writing. But I will try and do better from now on!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Perry,

I am SO glad you and your brother love it. I wrote Septimus for BOTH! Definitely. I really want boys and girls and teens and grown-ups to read it. There is something there for everyone, I hope.

  154. Lily

Is there any chance Marcellus and Marcia won’t get together? Because I really kind of hope they don’t.

    • Angie Sage

      hello Lily,

No, they won’t get together. I would like them both to survive…

  155. Flames

    Hi,
    I have a couple of Q’s:
    1. When does DARKE get released in Australia?
    2. Are Snorri’s eyes green or blue?
    3. Do Sep and Jenna get together (please don’t make Beetle and Jenna)
    4. Are you coming again to Perth?
    5. After DARKE, will their be any more books?
    6. When Syrah Syarah wakes up, does she start aging again? Or will she die because of living by Possesion for 500 years? Her body is 500 years old. I dunno…
Ok, thanks heaps, please answer my Q’s…

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Flames,
that’s a whole Heap of Questions!
      1. I will find out
      2. green
      3. not sure yet
4 I’d love to come to Perth again, but I don’t think it will be next year…
      5. the last book – 7- will be after Darke.
      6. yes, Syrah will start from where she left off when she was Possessed.

      • Jam

*cries* If there’ll be 7 books in the Septimus Heap series, will you be doing any book companions? Does the series has merchandise? (If yes, can’t wait to buy those) Can the septimus heap cards be sold rather than dowloaded?

      • LeAnn

I was wondering about the eye color too, in Syren it says “Her green eyes flashed at Nicko” however in Phisik it states “Snorri’s light blue eyes shown out of the dark” so I was confused.

        Thanks for clearing that up

      • Sarah

ya i thought so too that snorri’s eyes were light blue cause numerous times it said that it was light blue and then once it says green…

  156. megan

hi Angie!! im megan i really love the septimus heap series there amazing and you are an amazing author so ill get to the point i heard that there was going to be a DARKE dragon in DARKE is this true?? ( if your allowed to tell me) thanks ps. Noah is my cousin:) byee

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Megan, Noah’s cousin,

yes, there will be a darke dragon in Darke!

      • Jerri

Wonderful news about the darke dragon in Darke! I just hope he/she doesn’t hurt poor Spite Fyre, that dragon suffered enough in Syren! But more dragon action is good.

      • megan

coool as jerri said yes that would be sad if spit fyre got badly hurt:( also do we get to learn more about all the different relationships in darke like jenna n beetle or sep n syrah and just all of those characters??? thanx angie!!

  157. Dear Angie,
I just finished reading Queste, and I have a question that may bother other people too. Here it goes: how did the gathering happened if Hotep-Ra wasn’t there?I’m sorry if I wrote something wrong because I’m brazilian.Oh, and I forgot to say, that colleague of mine that was reading Magyk is crazy to read Queste, but he doesn’t speak English. Thanks for your atention,
    Nina

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Nina,

You haven’t written anything wrong at all!
The Gathering was for ghosts, but Hotep Ra is still alive…

I will ask about Queste coming out in Brazil. I didn’t chase that one up before…

  158. mell

    hey Angie!!!,
i really love your books, and i especially like all the brotherly moments septimus has, and i was wondering….who would you say is the closest to septimus(only counting brothers) would it be nicko?
i wish simon was nicer if he wasnt evil i think he’d be really nice 🙂
    thx

    • Angie Sage

      hi Mell,

Yes, I like those moments too. I would say that Sep is closest to Nicko by far.
There’s more about Simon in Darke…

  159. mrpineda803

    hi Angie
I was wondering how many books are you going to write???

    • Angie Sage

      hi,

there will be 7 in the main series. I might write a few more shorter ones – possible one about Marcia growing up.

  160. Alberto

    Hi,
I love your books but in Italy they are not all out yet. Can you tell me when it comes out the next (we should still go out Queste).
I’m sorry if I wrote something wrong because I am Italian.
    thanks

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Alberto,

I will find out for you about Queste. I had thought it was already out, but will check. You English is very good – much better than my Italian!

  161. Diana

Am I the only one who goes to bed at night and dreams about washing up on the Forest shore where Rupert Gringe spots me and brings me to the Infermory where I meet Sep and I look into his deep, beautiful, green eyes…. Sorry I’m a freak I know. I guess what I’m trying to say is do you dream about yourself being there, you know minus the whole bizarre romance thing that goes on in my head?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Diana,

      I think that is lovely – but then I’m a romantic too…
No, I don’t dream about it at all, even when I’ve been writing late at night. I think that’s a good thing though.

    • Rachel EMily

When I read about a good book (kudos to you, angie)before bed, I generally dream I’m in the book….except then it mixes and matches with other great books.

  162. Anny

Hello, Angie. I am 11 years old and I love your books so much! I want to write a lot but I am forcing myself to ask only 1 question: When and where do the Septimus Heap books take place? I would be so pleased if you replied, it has been something that has been bugging me since I finished Magyk. Thanks,
    –Anny

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Anny,

Ask me another! I have plans for that one – if they work out, that is.

  163. sara

hi Angie my name is sara i’m 15 and i’m writing and i was wondering if you have and advice on writing

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Sara,

I do have some tips on my website, but the main things are:
      Read LOADS
Write a little bit every day
And keep on trying – it can be discouraging sometimes when the ideas don’t work but just keep writing.
I discovered that I write best through my characters and allowing them to act for themselves, but some people like to plan out the plot first. Try both ways of writing and see what is best for you…

  164. Hannah

hi angie I just finished reading Syren loved it, while I was reading the magykal papers I saw the picture of Jenna I look identicle to her it’s so cool

    • Angie Sage

I’m glad you liked SYREN – and it must be fun to look like Jenna- you will have to find a gold circlet to wear!

  165. niah

    Dear Angie
I would really like if you would come to Slovenia! Its really nice place! Expecualy my wilage! Next to my house theres something for tourists! I watch them everyday. PLEASE COME!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Niah,

Thank you! I have heard that Slovenia is beautiful. I am not sure when I will be able to go there but you never know. It is definitely once of the places I would love to visit.

  166. ariel

    Hey Angie!
    I have a couple questions…
    1. What does Jillie Djinn look like? I know she’s really short but I can’t picture her and there’s no illustration of her except for a little sketch by Beetle in the Magykal Papers.
    2. How do you pronounce Ullr?
    3. In Magyk, Zelda met Alther seemingly for the first time before the Apprentice dinner on the shore where Molly was beached, but in Physik Alther said he knew Zelda before when they went through the warehouse together. Which is it?
    4. In Physik, Snorri’s eyes are described as light blue and in Syren they are green. Has she been learning magyk?
    5. Does Barney have any other family besides Billy Pot? because I think it would be so cute if Zelda took him under her wing life Wolf Boy. Also is Billy related to Alice?
    6. To me Jenna has become more obnoxious and self-centered like Milo (the queen does it as well a little) in the past couple books. Do you mean for her to be like that?
(btw I think Septimus and Beetle are way too good for Jenna)
    7. I though Lucy was supposed to be 21 or 22 but in Syren she comes off as the same age as the others. Why has she reverted to pre-teen-like behavior?
(sorry about the lack of textual examples for those last 2 questions-I don’t have the books on me)
    8. And finally, as cool as the special effects on your site are, it’s extremely hard to navigate and most of the links don’t work.

Thanks in advance. Can’t wait for Darke!!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Ariel,

You have managed to pick out all my mistakes. Help! But thank you for all your comments – you’d be a brilliant copy editor for this series.
      1. Well, I drew all of Beetle’s sketches. I see her as short, with a pointy nose, quite tubby, tiny feet. She does not really care too much how she looks, although she is very particular about being neat and tidy.
      2. Ullr – I think of it as said like Ull-a
      3. I put this down to Aunt Zelda’s bad memory. Yes, they had been in the warehouse together. Aunt Zelda was either being deliberately grumpy with Alther (she had had a lot to cope with) or very forgetful.
      4. They are green. This is a mistake in Physik.
      5. Yes, Billy is related to Alice. I still have to work out exactly how. I think Barney is quite happy at the Palace at the moment. He does have a big brother somewhere and his Dad runs a small fruit farm in the Farmlands.
      6. I don’t mean her to be obnoxious at all. Self-centred … maybe a little. She certainly has got more short tempered, but then she is the kind of age where sometimes that is how you are. It doesn’t mean she will stay like that.
      7. Sometimes one does… it’s still fun to be teenagerish when you are in your twenties. And Lucy is growing up quite slowly.
      8. Thanks for the website comment. It’s one of the things I must look at. I’ll get onto it…

  167. Hi Angie…
I was wondering what was inside Sep’s Physik Chest or stuff that i could get that would be close to it because i want to make my very own because i am trying to remodel my room and i want like a little part of every book series i have read to be in it (like dragon statues and of course a Physik Chest) and i like sep series sooooo much that i want to get a green or purple trenchcoat to look like the EOW robe or the apprentice robes and then i want a silver of gold colored belt and charms

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Bekah,

That’s an amazing idea, having your room a kind of Septimus room.
I think there is a list of the contents of Sep’s Physik chest in the Magykal Papers. There is one somewhere, for sure, because I remember making one. Or did I put it at the end of Physik? I will have to check. however it is really cold here tonight and I am writing this by the fire. If you don’t mind I’ll venture out into the icy blast of the library later!

  168. Anny

    Hello Angie,
I have another question. If the ExtraOrdinary wizard retires and does not have an Apprentice, who becomes the next ExtraOrdinary wizard? I know it’s probably in the books somewhere…

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Anny,

No, it’s not in the books…
That has only happened a few times and then there has generally been an Apprentice from a previous Wizard available. There is a secret codex that can be given to any Ordinary Wizard in an emergency whichallows them to become locum EOW , and after a year and a day’s study will enable them to take over fully. I believe that has happened twice.

  169. Brendan

Hi I have another couple of questions….

Will Sep ever get the Flyte Charm back?
If Jenna left her key in the House of Foryx how will she get back in the Queen’s Room?
Will Marcia ever admit she’s wrong?
Will Merrin actually use his real name?
and Is Milo Banda really a bad parent, overly concerned, or just a tricky devil?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Brendan

I think he will get the Flyte Charm back.
Marcia fixed that for her. She has it back now…
Marcia gets as near as she’s going to get to that in DARKE.
Yes, he will. But he has to really believe that’s who he is first.
Milo is just Milo. he’s not bad, but I guess he is not the ideal parent. He is restless and doesn’t understand too much about other people. But he really loves jenna.

  170. Hannah

hi angie i really look like Jenna and I want to know more about her like her favorite color? also is her full name Jenna Banda?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Hannah,

In our society jenna would be Jenna Banda, but the Queens of the Castle operate as a matriarchy and so she takes her mother’s name. Which is known only to the Queens themselves…

  171. ERTO

Why is Nicko considered Jenna’s brother and Septimus is not? Confusing.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello ERTO,

Both Nicko and Septimus are considered the same. They are Jenna’s adoptive brothers. I don’t think I have written about them differently… I hope not.

  172. heyy. i have a few questions.

first off – does the country where the castle’s located actually have a legit /name/ as in America or Russia or is it literally called ‘The Small Wet Country Across the Sea?’

second – someone i know said you mentioned somewhere on this comment board (dunno where, too lazy to look) that marcia has a crush on someone…which made me curious. could you give a hint as to who it /might/ be?
    thanks.

    • Lily

That’s true. You did say Marcia had a crush on someone on the old ask angie page. Can you give us a hint Angie? That would be so cool.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi I love friday…

No, the country doesn’t have a name. I wanted to steer clear of too many names and i see the Castle as a small province within – who knows where? I think I don’t want too many labels on the world. Not sure why – maybe it makes it all more free and full of possibilities…

Marcia does get a bit clumsy and slightly embarrassed around someone. I am not saying who. Not yet, anyway…

      • Rachel Emily

Can you at least tell us if its someone who is important in the story?

  173. Lauryn

My World Cultures class is doing Ancient Greece at the moment, and I noticed a similarity between them and the SH World.
    1. The Spartan fighting form is called a phalanx, where they charge all at once – a phalanx of forests???
    – Lauryn

    • Lauryn

      Sorry, typo.
A phalanx of foryx? Is that where you got the idea?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Lauryn,

I have read so many things about ancient cultures that they all blend into one big Septimus pot. I often use words because they sound good and feel right. And Phalanx and Foryx is not only nice alliteration, but it looks good too! I did latin at school and I seem to remember it referred to a Roman fighting form too. And I knew it was not something you want to see advancing towards you…

World cultures class does sound interesting.

      • Diana

Isn’t that the one where they lock shields and advance in a wall of armor with their spears drawn?

  174. Jam

Hello to my favorite author! ^_^ I love how every book of the Septimus Heap series has a cover which is actually the book talked about. My question: Is the Darke cover also shows a certain book? What did the 6th book focus more: action, romance, drama, tragedy, etc.?

    • Rachel Emily

The front cover of darke is based on the book the dark index, featured in queste when merrin tries to ill-wish sep.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello jam,

Well, thank you – it’s fun being favourite author!

The Darke cover shows The Darke Index…

Darke has romance but not all of it is successful… there’s a lot of tesion and drama, I think. And putting some of the pieces that were pulled apart in Magyk back together again too. Which is what the whole series is about, I am beginning to realise.

  175. cuch

hi angie I would like to know what is in the tresure that minos finds, why is he looking for it and since whenis he looking for it.

    • Angie Sage

well, Milo was searching for what he found: the chest full of the soldier djinn.
It had been a legend that many did not believe, but Milo likes a challenge and the chance of a quick profit…

  176. LeAnn

    Dear Ms. Sage,
When you started the books did you start for fun, like just writting because you could? Thats what I’m doing and I wanted to know if thats how you started.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello LeAnn,

I started because it was the millennium, which was a time when we all thought about what we had planned for our lives. So I thought ‘You’ve been thinking about this story for ages and if you don’t write it now when will you? Just DO IT!!’ I guess I had to be a bit Marcia with myself, really….

  177. Rachel Emily

Dear Angie, number one, Pleeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeee please make Syrah and Sep get together and Beetle and Jenna get together. Number two, will The Time Be Right for Jenna to become Queen in the seventh book? And books 1-5 are awesome, and I can’t wait for Darke and for book 7. Thank you so much for writing Septimus Heap!!!!!!

    • Angie Sage

Oh … well, I really don’t know about Beetle and Jenna (there is more about them in Darke). Syrah and Sep… well, we will have to wait until Syrah gets out of the DisEnchanting Chamber.

  178. tracy

angie? my daughter goes on AND on about you im reading SYREN right now its good!!

  179. Tiffany Hensarling

    Dear Ms. Angie Sage,
My name is Tiffany Hensarling. I have read all 5 of your books and can’t wait to read the 6th and all the other books of Septimus you write. I just wanted to ask if you are going to make a movie out of them? I am a huge fan. I can read the Septimusheap books over and over again. They are better than Harry Potter.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Tiffany,

Thank you, I am so pleased you love the books!
Warner Brothers are doing the movie – David Frankel is the director and if you go to his website you will see Septimus Heap is there for 2012, although the exact date may change. Exciting!

  180. Diana

When you write, d you actually write a story, or just record a daydream? For me, most school assignments start as an assignment, but then my creative side took over, like when I was supposed to be writing a realistic short story and I ended up with a novel about the struggles a senior in high school boy overcomes when he finds out his girlfriend is pregnant. But that’s off topic. So is it a daydream or a assignment, or does it morph into one or the other?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Diana,

When i write it is like work – sitting at my laptop and doing 1000 words every day. That is when the ideas come. i think the daydream bot is for atmosphere and a more general emotional feel about the story. It is an assignment, because, like an assignment, it has a deadline so you have to make sure it gets done. But that doesn’t cut out the daydreaming… as you know! The way you describe your writing is how so many of us do it.

  181. Drew

When you are done with Septimus Heap 😦 will your next books be around the same age level?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Drew,

I can’t imagine being done with Sep, although I know it has to happen. But there are other things like Marcia when young, and maybe 10 years on with Sep & co in their early twenties, that I would like to write.

I do have another idea and yes, it is the same age group. I also have a grown-up novel cooking, but its got a long way to go…

  182. Septimusheapisawesome

In Magyk, Sally Mullin calls Marcia a floozie when she believes Marcia is running away with Silas. It got me thinking….was Marcia as straight laced as a child as she is as an adult or was she something of a floozie in her younger days? Thanks.

    • Angie Sage

Marcia has always been rather straight laced. She did not appreciate being called a floozie.

  183. dreamer

How long your are in fantacy night in Helsinki this friday?I wan´t com to see you but i´think tahat i don´t can, because i live in Tampere.do you singature books in both happening?i hope i get somebody come with me in Helsinki!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Dreamer,

Did I see you there, I wonder? Sorry I didn’t reply before I went. I was at the book fair and also at the British Council. I loved every minute – you are really lucky living in Finland. I’m guessing that Tampere is a long way from Helsinki?

  184. Jerri

While parts of your web site still list April 2011 as the release date for Darke, the part with the summary of the book has the April 11 crossed out and dates in June for both the US and UK. Please say this is a mistake? I note that it still gives April 2011 for Canada? Should I plan a trip to Canada this spring? I don’t want to wait several months more!!!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Jerri,

I asked my publisher this a couple of weeks ago as I too thought it was April, but it is June. I am sorry it will be later than you expect. Canada will be the same, I think as they have an agreement with the US. But I will check this.

  185. Bookworm 1000

I am soo confused abou the age of some of the characters…

    • Diana

I Darke, Syrah is 14, Sep is 14, Jenna is 14, Wolf boy is probably around 15, Lucy and Simon are around 21, Merrin is about 13, and Alice Nettles is almost done with her Resting Time.

      • Angie Sage

Yep – but Syrah is about 17. Merrin is 6 months older than Sep. Wolf Boy is about 3 months older than Sep. I have to check on Lucy as I have lost track but 21 sounds right to me.

  186. What’s your favorite book in the series?
Do Sep and Syrah have a thaang?

    • Angie Sage

I don;t have a favourite, I really don’t – each one has a part that I really loved to write.
Sep had a thaaang about Syrah, it was an older woman thing, I think.

  187. Diana

Site moderator person, about how long does it take for our questions to be posted and is there a set time when Angie Sage answers our questions?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Diana,

this is down to me and I need to log on more often. Must get rid of all the chaos and get more organised. I love answering all the q’s. Let’s say from now on I will try to log on every Friday. I know it is not fair to leave everyone hanging around, waiting for answers.

  188. Hello,
First, I apologize for mistakes. I only studied english at school.
    I’m a 32 yo french fan.
My question is: Do you have “scrutiny” on the translations of your books. I mean, it’s sometimes difficult to translate jokes, or “magykal” terms. Sometimes, the feeling of a book depends on words, and a perfect translation does’nt exist.
I ask myself if I have to find books in english, to compare.

For example, the name of the dragon in france is “boutefeu”, wich not the translation of “spitfire”. “Boutefeu” is not used since long time in france. Its a piece of wood with a wick to put fire on cannon. Otherwise, it’s the name for a person wich exacerbating conflicts !
A strange coïncidence now ! I have since a long time a tatoo on my arm. It’s a dragon. Just up to the dragon, I tatooed “boutefeu” (for some personnal/medieval reasons). I let you imagine my feeling when I discovered dragon’s name in the book !
    Thanks

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Rose Noir,

      Your English is great!

Translations are in the lap of the Gods – or at least the publishers. But I have met my lovely French translator and I know that she really gets Septimus. But I am aware that jokes and sometimes names are hard to translate literally and its best when a translator just goes by instinct, i think.

That is really strange about Boutefeu. I love it when things like that happen. It works well for Spit Fyre and suits him. I actually took the name Spit Fyre from the little airplane from WW II.

  189. Lau

Sorry Diana but you are wrong! :(( Merrin is half year older than Septimus so he can’t be 13. And if i remember correct Syrah is 17. ( but I’m not really sure about her age) I don’t mind if Merrin would be the youngest! 😀

  190. Why do you write so many books? I mean, well I think I know why, but do you enjoy writing these? I guess that’s what I’m asking.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Ethan,

This is a question I often ask myself, especially towards the end of a book. I have to confess, i do not always enjoy writing, but I would hate not to be able to do it. It’s odd really. And I love discovering ever more about the Septimus world – and the only way to discover it is to write it…

  191. Louis

    Hello,
Sorry to bug everyone, but I imagine Septimus Heap taking place in maybe the 17 or 18th century by the houses and the way it feels, but in the Magykal Papers there is a paper that looks like it was typed by a typewriter which they didn’t have back then.

  192. erika t (same as ERIKA T)

    Hey Angie or Shauki,

Can you by any chance put a quiz or 2 in this website? thnx

  193. Kieran

    Hello Angie,
I’m a huge fan. My questions probably seem a bit geeky but it really bugs me some times. How is you target age group. At the moment it’s under 8’s in shops but i would think of it more as a teen book. Why are there always 49 chapters. Oh and i love the humor in the books and cleaver twists like in book three. IP infant princess or Ionna(or something like that) Potts. 🙂 Love your books

    • Rachel Emily

There is a major theme of sevens in the books. 7 books, seventh son of a seventh son, “sep” in Septimus, ect. There is an edition of magyk that has extras in the back, and there is a page on the magykal number 7.
      Hope that helped!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Keiron,

Thanks – its lovely to hear you get all the little twisty bits…

It’s the bookshops that have target age groups – and the publishers too. But I just write the story i want to write. Ok, I want it to be readable for people who have not quite got to double figures age-wise but I really write for people like me – or maybe like i was when i was younger as I am fairly ancient now…
I think you probably need to be early teens to get all the subtleties of the story.

49 chapters is, as Rachel said, all about the number 7.

  194. Madi

Do you ever feel like your characters are separate people from you, or do you feel like they are a part of you?
Because I know when I write, all of my characters have SOME essence of me in them, like my stories. Every clever plan and witty comment is the author’s plan, the author’s comment. When I’d read about clever plans etc.. I’d usually think “That character is really smart! I would never be able to come up with something like that on the spot!” but now I think “The character is so clever. The author is a genius to be able to come up with all this.”
So, my main question is do you feel like a part of the stories?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Madi,

I do suspect that each character has something of me in it. I think tat is what happens when you write. I certainly don’t base them on real people… Though I don’t like to think how I might be like DomDaniel. Hmm… maybe it’s the love of big rings…

I guess i do feel part of the stories, but only as an onlooker, not a participant.

  195. Lily

How does the mirrot in Marcia’s room work? Why does it have to do “caluclations?” Also do Simon and Lucy ever get married?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Lily,

the mirror has to do calculations because Marcia tells it to. Marcia does like to look a little thinner than she is, although recently she thinks she looks fine just as she is.
Yes, Simon and Lucy do get married.

  196. Lauryn

    More questions!
    1. Are we ever going to see more of our character’s families…like more Heaps, or Snorellsons (I have no idea if I spelled that right) or more Beetles, or Wolf Boy’s family?
    2. Are the witches going to reappear in Darke? And if so, will Jojo and Marissa get back together?
    3. Where did the Queen’s come from? Does Jenna have any ancestors far away that she doesn’t know about?
    4. Is the Dragon Boat Spit Fyre’s mother? If so, who’s the daddy?
I’m probably going to have more questions later, but these are the ones I remembered to ask. So…Happy Halloween!

    • Diana

Well, for Heaps: Zelda had two brothers which were Theo and Benjamen, who married Jenna Crackle and they had seven children, Alfred, Hengist, Louis, Ernold, Garth, and Silas, who we all know married Sarah Willow, daughter of Titus Willow and Thomasin Tremaine. That’s about all I know from these books.

    • Lauryn

See, I do have a couple more questions!
Is Hugo related to Bo? Because they have the same last name?
In Physik, Beetle’s eyes are black, and in Syren they’re brown? What color are they?
Sorry, just got a little confused.

      • Lauryn

        Here we go again:
Does everyone become a ghost when they die?
I’m probably going to take up a lot of the forum.
        Sorry forum.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello lauryn,

I can’t spell Snorrelssen either. I kept changing it when I was writing and now i can’t remember…

I think the families will come if i do more one-off book after the series and concentrate on different characters. But what Diana says is right. there is a family tree on the Septimus website.
Yes, you will see the witches in Darke. Marissa too, but take it from me, she is not good for JoJo.
The Queens have been at the Castle so long that they really are part of it. Originally they came from the Far Countries. jenna does have ancestors elsewhere, but that is going way back.
I have not yet discovered what the Dragon Boat has to do with Spit Fyre. I am hoping to find out in book 7.

Yes, he is her great great (and then some) grandfather.

oops. Beetle’s eyes are just very dark.

Everyone can become a ghost, but not all bother. it can be rather upsetting for some people.

      Great questions!!

  197. Septimusrox

You said earlier that Marcia might be partly based on someone you shared an aparment with. I was wondering if you lived alone with this girl because something tells me that living alone with a “Marcia type” would get somewhat old really fast. Did this woman even look like Marcia? Must have been a heck of a character, I would have liked to have met her.

    • Angie Sage

There were 2 of us who shared with ‘marcia’ (Maria in real life). She was/is great. She was a little older than us and ruled the roost – but in a good way. I recently told her about this and, luckily, she is really pleased.

  198. Samlie the wizard

    Dear Angie
I find this very weird i thought if i could ask you some questions they would be why dont you make a video game of septimus heap and why dont you call your next book darke then i found out that you are making darke do you think i am Magyk?

    • Angie Sage

it does seem as though you might be Magyk – have you looked at your eyes recently???

  199. Flames

My last post I said that I wanted Sep and Jenna together. I woudn’t mind Sep and Jenna OR Sep and Syrah. Just not Jen and Beetle. They just don’t work for me. but, hey, you can do watcha want, its your book, Angie. Obviously. 🙂

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Flames,

Hmm.. wait until Darke. I do happen to agree with you though.

  200. megan

hi, Angie sorry your probably quite busy with whatever:) but my cousin and I have had an argument going on for a long time we were wondering how do you pronounce Syren is it siren as in like a cops sirens. or is it syren like s-eer-in thanx

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Megan,

I don’t know who has won this one, but it is as in cops’ siren.

  201. megan

hi Angie AGAIN sorry I have a lot of questions but this one is actually a comment so ill have to throw a question in there so it doesn’t get erased I would use off topic but I don’t see you on that page to much anyway it says your writing the script and im hoping that you make this movie a lot like the book thanx for listening oh ya and um is wolf boy really a triplet!?!?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Megan,

No, I am not writing the script! But I think Warners have a really great writer to do it.

Yep, Wolf Boy is a triplet. More in Darke…

  202. LeAnn

Dear Angie, it’s kind of funny. The more questions I put on here that you answer the easier it is to say “Dear Angie” that beside the point though. My question is do we ever meet Boys 410 & 411 (Wolf Boys triplet brothers)?

Also, when you wrote what Beetle or Sep thought did you get your husband or someone to help you (with how a boy that age thinks) or did you just write it? I’m asking because I want my novel to be omnicient but I cant write what a guy thinks because I’m not one. Does that make any sense?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi LeAnn,

      That’s nice…

Yes, we meet them in Darke.

I just wrote the boy characters. I was quite a tomboy when I was young and I really don’t think there are huge difference between boys and girls at that age. We are all human when it comes down to it. So yes, you can write about being a guy! Why not?

  203. Jenipher

    Dear Ms. Sage,
Hello. I am a HUGE fan of yours! I LOVE the Septimus Heap series!!!! I have read them SO many times and I can’t stop from reading them again! I am so stoked about Darke and am both excited and saddened by the thought of the seventh book. Knowing the seventh might and most likely is the final book in the series saddens me so. I am, however, very much anticipating the seventh book.
I have a question (apparently lol). Where do you get your inspiration from? I myself am a writer of the fantasy genere and am in desperate need of inspiration for my three main stories are dying and I cannot handle the loss of my stories. They are as children to me, even though I am barely old enought to be considered an ‘adult’ to those who are deserving of the title. Please, I really need some help.
    Jenipher

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Jenipher,

I don’t know where inspiration comes from. Does it even exist? All I know is that i have to sit and write and think and put myself into the shoes of my characters and then hope that something works. I suppose that is why people do refer to inspiration when they talk about writing as it is very hard to know where ideas come from. However, I do think it gets easier as you get older as you have so much more to draw upon. Not what you want to hear, I am guessing! There is no easy answer to your question, except maybe put it all to one side for a while and do something else. Come back to your novel later, maybe in 6 months time, and see what you think about it then.
      Writing can be tough sometimes!!

      • Jenipher

        Ms. Sage
It’s ironic. A few days after I posted my question, I found myself in a sudden fit of inspiration! Lol! Amazing how these things work.
I do have an actual book question: why do you purposely spell certain words like Darke, Magyk, Flyte etc etc? I find it very clever and fun to read. A break in the monotny of classic-style writing is very refreshing.

  204. Hannah

hello shauki a question when the days of auditions do appear will they be posted on the same page that angie wrote on saying she finished Darke?

    • Hello! Nope, the days of the auditions will be posted on a new page. On the top. 🙂 But we have to wait for the green light.

      • megan

hello shauki um about what hannah asked you (sorry if this isnt allowed to be asked) do you have any idea or guess of how close they are to knowing when the green light will be?? thanks

      • No, we don’t know this yet.

      • Angie Sage

I am hoping that we may know around about May. Warner Brothers have extended to option for another 9 months from July and things are progressing now much faster. As soon as I know I’ll post it.

  205. Lily

    Hey Angie!

I was curious…would you ever try to “lead us the wrong way” on this questions page. Like maybe tell us something is going to happen when it really isn’t or vice versa just to surprise us later on? Just wondered.

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Lily,

No, i really don’t. But sometimes I really don’t know yet. and if i don’t want to say i may write something corny like, ‘aha’. And of course the author is allowed to change her mind. I hope…

  206. SeptimusHeaplover

What got Marcia into snakeskin? And did she see Alther more as a second father figure or a friend?

    • Angie Sage

Marcia had a bad experience with a python as a child when travelling with her parents. She now gets her own back. I think Alther is a good mixture of father figure – or mentor – and friend.

  207. TJ and Nikki

In the Magykal Papers it says on page 40 that Sarah has blue eyes but, on page 19 in Magyk, it says that she has green eyes.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi TJ and Nikki,

Oh bother, not more eyes… Well Sarah Heap definitely has green eyes, I really don’t know what has been happening to eye colour recently. Of course maybe someone caught her in the wrong light, Sarah does have witch blood in her too and it is, i suppose, possible that someone else with witch blood may see them as blue.

  208. Lily

What color eyes do Wizards have before their eyes turn green?

  209. hello Angie,
I am a young author and everyone in my grade likes the stories i write and i am working on a book that i may publish so i have a question about the Septimus heap publishing…..
How much did it cost you to publish sep????? because i want to know how much i would have to pay for the book i may publish in the near or far future
    Thanks,
    Bekah

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Bekah,

There are lots of different ways to publish a book. If you are published by a mainstream publisher then they will pay you! The reason being that they hope to sell enough of your books to make a profit. Writing is a job and people who write full time need to earn money from it.
But of course that means that it is not easy to get a book published in that way as sadly, so many books published do not sell. if you really want to see your book in print there are publishers that make a living not from selling the books they produce, but from charging the authors of the books. That is often called vanity publishing because people do it just to see their stories made up into books.
My advice would be not to worry about being published just yet, but hone your writing skills for a while longer.

  210. Hannah

hello shauki i think on one question you said auditions aren’t until next year because people are still working on the movie is that correct?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Hannah,

yes, that’s right. Warners won’t be casting the movie until it has the go-ahead.

  211. Lau

    Hello Angie,
    Thank you for your answers!
I would like to ask some questions. (again) 😀
Have Merrin started to hate eating cabbage while he was with Aunt Zelda? or he didn’t like it at all? Is he thankful to Zelda for saving his life? ( If I remember correct he can’t remember what Dom Daniel did to him but he can’t feel somehow that Zelda saved him?) Does he like living in the castle? Does he always eat sweets? or he eats normal food? ( I mean he usually eats licorice…) 😀

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Lau,

Merrin hates cabbage. He always has…
No, he’s not thankful to aunt Zelda for saving his life. He doesn’t really believe she did it. Merrin doesn’t think anyone would bother to save him – why would they?
Merrin doesn’t like the Castle, he thinks its a dump.
He likes eating sweets just because he can and there is no one to stop him. He doesn’t eat much else apart from sausage sandwiches and It’s not doing him a lot of good…

  212. SeptimusHeaplover

Are Silas, Sarah, Milo, and Marcia the same age? I always thought they would be but on the first ask Angie page you said Marcia was in her late thirties (don’t tell her I know that!) and I have no idea how old Milo and Sarah are but on the character cards it says that Silas is 45 so he is actually a few years older than Marcia…..is Sarah closer to Marcia’s age or to Silas’s? What about Milo?

    • Angie Sage

      Hi!
Sarah is about a year younger than Silas. Milo is about the same age as Marcia.

  213. Bella

What was the embarassing difficulty Marcia’s father had before he moved to the Castle that you mentioned in the Magykal Papers? And is there really no chance that Marcellus and Marcia will get together? I really like that pairing.

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Bella,

I am planning on writing a short book about Marcia’s early life so I’ll leave that one for later…

I do think it would lead to terrible arguments if marcellus and marcia got together.

  214. jannafan12

    hi angie,

I am just about half way through Queste and i love it! Also, i was wondering about beetle. does he have any siblings? are sep and jenna his only friends? Hope to here your answere soon!
    P.S. I’m your #1 fan!!!!!

    • Angie Sage

      Hello jennafan12,

Really pleased you are liking Queste so much!
Beetle is an only child but he is a popular guy. he still has friends at the manuscriptorium: Partridge and Foxy are probably his closest friends there.

  215. Astrid

Hi angie! I love Septimus Heap series and can’t wait for Darke to come out! What do students in magyk school learn? oh, and how old is Marcia in Queste?

    • Angie Sage

      Hello Astrid,

The students don’t do any magyk at school, but those interested or from magykal families can stay after school and do magykal theory and history. If they really want a career in magyk they’d need to get an apprenticeship at the wizard tower.

Marcia is not telling how old she is but I don’t think she’s hit 40 – yet…

  216. jennafan12

Hi Angie! I can’t wait for Darke to come out! Also, are there other types of dragons then Spitfires type? I always thought so and hope you answer it! Oh, and in Queste when the Gathering happens, is Alther there? I thought he was with Alice Nettle’s ghost at the Palace? Hope you anwsere it soon!

    • Angie Sage

      Hi Jennafan,

There are other types of dragons, but there are not many about in Sep’s time. Most are extinct. Some looked really weird. Spit Fyre’s type of dragon is the most common in Sep’s time.

Alther went to the Gathering. He didn’t want to leave Alice, but he had to.

  217. L.V.Yara

    hi Angie

i am a young writer of fantasy books and i hope if you can give me some advices of how to be a good writer of fantasy books. I have other style but is the 10% the same thing. I have read your books, and i am sure(i hope this dont sound like arrogancy)i am the #1 fan ever.
I am from latinoamerica my english is not so good if i have a gramtical mistake please tell me.
    And i have some questions:
    How it looks the syren?
In what era is the story? I ask this because when I try to find out, nothing is exact. So I’m confused
    it all.

    L.V.Yara

    • Angie Sage

      Hi there,

It’s tough to give good advice about writing fantasy as I don’t read any fantasy! I know Septimus is classified as fantasy but i see it more a story about growing up and discovering things. Any story need good strong characters and some adventure in it, I think. And something of the person writing it too, to make it their own. My advice is to read lots as well as write.

Syren looks like a strange, ghostly woman. But she can change shape too.
The story is not set in any era that we would recognise.

I think your english is a lot better than any foreign language i can write in! There are some mistakes, but I understood what you meant, which is the important thing.

      Good luck with your writing!

  218. Andrei

    Hi Angie!
I hope that Jenna and Beatle will be togheter and that the Wolf Boy will be the next to take Aunt Zelda’s place.I also hope that Simon will be accepted at the castle again and marry Lucy.I also have got some questions:
Will Book 7 be about Septimus’s last day of being Marcia’s student?
Will somebody good die in Book 6 and Book 7?
And by the way I also think that Snorri and Nicko will be togheter.
After you finish the 7 books will you write more about Septimus?
Will Septimus travel in time again?Or anybody else from the series?
    Can’t wait for your answers.

  219. Angie Sage

    Hello Andrei,

I know some of the answers to your questions, but not all. I am still thinking about book 7 so can’t really say much at the moment. beside, it would spoil it if i did! But for 2 of your questions the answer is yes…

And yes I would like to write more about Septimus after the main series is completed. Maybe jump forwards 10 years and I’d also like to do something about Marcia’s childhood – although it is hard to imagine Marcia as a child…

  220. Diana

I noticed earlier that you said there was going to be a liitle more romance in future books, so what about this : Colin Partridge and Romilly Badger. It was hinted that Partridge likes her in Magykal Papers.

  221. Anny

Dear Angie– Do you know when an excerpt will be available for Darke? And are there different pictures for the characters (I mean the ones on the tops of the chapters)?
    Thanks!

  222. Lily

You know everbody complains about Milo but I actually feel bad for him because he lost Cerys and all. He obviously is still really in love with Cerys all these years later which I think is really sweet. Will Milo ever get to see the Queen’s ghost? Will they ever get to talk to one another? I think that would make him happy to be able to communicate with her again.

  223. Diana

I have another question. Well, it’s more of a suggestion really but I’ll throw a question in here anyway so my comment won’t be deleted.
What if Syrah stayed the same age in the DisEnchanting room and when Sep is 17 he finally figures out how to awaken her. I think that would be very sweet, and it would also eliminate the “older woman” problem.
Okay now I need to put in another question in case the first one didn’t count… hmmm….. Oh! I’ve got it! Does Nicko ever meet Snorri’s parents up in the north, and why does she sound kind of Viking-ish?

  224. Lau

    Hello it’s me again!

I don’t really know what kind of places Merrin would like to live because he thought all the places he stayed were dump. ( I mean he didn’t like staying with Zelda and after that with Simon and Lucy and now in the Palace…) Does he like Lucy? In Queste Lucy said or thought that she could make him laugh and he waved her back when she and Simon went out. What happend with the 26 Things? Did Simon find them? Was he angry? Did Simon realized that just Merrin wrote the letter to him and not the real Septimus? How could Merrin summond the Thing if he can’t use magic? ( I mean he’s an ordinary person and not a magican) I’m a little bit confused about Sleuth. Where is he?

    Thank you again! 😀

  225. Rachel Emily

Dear Angie: I have a lot of things to say….
1)Will you be going on tour to New Jersey any time soon?

2)Have any of your writing ideas come from a dream you have? Because sometimes I have an awesome dream, and when I wake up I spend the next few days in a daze, daydreaming until I work out the whole plotline.

3)This is kind of weird and slightly off topic, but have you ever gotten into a strange accident, like stapling your finger or something? I ask that because my six-year old brother just stapled his finger.(He’s fine though, as I took it out and put a band-aid on.)How he did that, I don’t know, but he did.

4)Do you ever scroll up to posts you already commented on? I ask this because I sometimes reply to comments.

    5) I know earlier you said you wouldn’t tell Marcia’s crush, but can you at least say which book he’s in, and whether or not he is important? (meaning, is he mentioned more than once or twice)

6)What is your favorite subject in school?

That’s all I can think of for now, so Happy Thanksgiving!

  226. jennafan12

I LOVE your books and thanks for answering my question on dragons! my favourite character is Jenna:) Thanks for answering all my previus questions, there must atleast 5! oh, and know for my question, how did the forest heaps make their benders, the little shelter things that they use?

  227. jennafan12

Hey lily Cerys told Alther thet she would show herself to Jenna and milo when the time is right.

  228. Lauryn

Are there any characters getting new illustrations in Darke?

  229. Diana

I don’t know much about making a movie, but how long, on average, does it take to make a movie? Also, what is this “green light” you’re looking for exactly? I mean I know that you have to get the go-ahead or something from the director, but what is HE looking for? I wish I could spend my time waiting for the movie to come out lost in the Septimus world, or at least in another book. I might have to read the ENTIRE series over again before the movie comes out.

  230. sleenki

I Can’t belive that my favrouit book is going to become a film, this is cool grate good for you Angie! I hope it becomes a hit! I love eveyone in all the books I have 3 copys of each. I read them to my little sis she loves them. thank you for writting such grate novlesxxxxx
    from Sleenki

  231. Bella

Is there any chance that there will be any gay or lesbian characters in the Septimus Heap books? I am asking because JK Rowling has a character named Dumbledore who is gay which I thought was really cool. I have a gay brother and he is an awesome guy and I wondered if any of the Heap characters are like this. Thanks.

  232. Ethan

    Dear Ms. Sage,

Is any one else going to…like…die like Alice did?

    Ethan

    PS Not that it’s a good thing…

  233. Austin

    Dear Angie Sage,
In the third book, why does Marcellus want Septimus to be his apprentice? Can’t he get another boy to do his bidding?

    Austin

  234. Madison

Hey, Angie. I looooove your books! I am 11 years old and I am a readaholic (if that’s even a word). But I am also easily scared sometimes. That is why Septimus Heap books have got to be the best books I’ve ever read! They aren’t scary, but they aren’t boring either. My favorite character is deffinitely Jenna. I can relate to her in so many ways. Sometimes it’s even scary how much we look alike. Your books are totally inspiring. I’m in the process of writing a book. My book has combined my two favorite things. Mermaids and pixies. You see soooo many books about how mermaids and pixies get along so well, so I wrote my book about mermaids and pixies at war. I hope that someday, maybe I’ll be able to get it published. I love to sing and act, but I live in a small town in Michigan so I don’t get to many oportunities for singing and acting. I am bad at taking videos because I can’t seem to hold a camera still, so I write books in hopes that someday they’ll make a movie out of them. That and I just plain love writing stories! But I’m having a little trouble being an author. I keep getting inspired for new stories, so I keep starting new stories. I can’t seem to finish one. Did this ever happen to you? Any advice? My brother Bryce can’t exactly read your books. I read to him all the time. He has his heart set on something Magykal this year because he’s 7, which is now his favorite number. I am short for my age and get picked on at school, but my personality makes up for my lack of height. I like to stand up for friends all the time because once you’ve felt what it’s like to be picked on, you know it’s no different when it’s you or a friend. I HATE bullies and do my best to prevent those kinds of situations.

  235. Alex.BattyHenderson

    Dear Angie

Hello I am 12 and I am thinking of starting to write little bits of books then trying to put them together is that a good idea also I love your books on flyte right now thanks

  236. Hi Angie,
I just was recommending to make the eight book with the name of “Aire”, i think it would be a great novel.
    Thanks a lot.
P.D. I will be honred, to you to see my youtube videos, with the username Mrplastimen (remember i’m 12 years old, so don’t expect such a great thing. In my opinion, the best one is the first. I left you the link below, enjoy).
