Angie’s Blog

Thank you for all the really interesting suggestions for the 7 chapter e book!

It is definitely going to take place in that space between Magyk and Flyte, the rest I shall put into the pot and see what works. It has been brilliant to get all that feedback.

On May 1 I emailed the revised FYRE off to Katherine, my editor, and now it has gone into copy edit and will come back to me in a few weeks with lots of different coloured comments all over it. This is where it gets put into US English. So we are nearly there. And the cover looks great too. You will see it here first, when it is all done.

Now, I am actually going to take this weekend off and spend monday wandering around our village street fair. Where’s the sun gone????

Angie’s Blog

News! I’ll soon be writing a Septimus short story ebook! This will be published to fill the looooong gap between now and FYRE and it  will be available as a download from Amazon.

So … I do have a really good idea, but I would also be really interested to hear what you would like too. It will be 7 chapters long (of course) so it will be short but sweet. Or short but scary.

Post any ideas and requests here! Or Tweet me on @AngieSageAuthor. I think this is going to be fun!

First Blog post!

Today … I’m checking through Chapter 40, which is looking fine, not much to change on this one. Hooray!

Letters from Angie Sage

Hello,

Just finished answering all you really interesting posts – sorry it has taken forever. When I get towards the end of a book I just have to go away and think about nothing else at all… But now Fyre is nearly done. I shall be sending my revised manuscript to Katherine for May 1st and then it will go into copy edit. This is where all the little glitches get fixed – and where my British English gets translated to US English!

Shauki is gearing up for a new ask Angie page – AA 5! as AA 4 has got really long. Letters from Angie will be changing to AngiesBlog too. And we are now linked to the FaceBook page: http://www.facebook.com/septimusheapbooks

Yay!

Letter from Angie Sage

Hi, Happy Springtime…

Well, I am now halfway through the edit of FYRE – hooray! Which is why I have not been here for a while. Writing Septimus does that sometimes, I  just disappear into the world and find it hard to get out of it again.

But I am nearly through with all the really hard stuff, just a few little puzzles still to sort out and then all is done. Now it’s Mark’s turn to get going on the illustrations. That’s the best bit for me – seeing all the brilliant drawings coming in.

Okay – I’m off now to answer some questions – and apologies to all you who have been patiently waiting – or even impatiently…

letter from Angie Sage

Hello,

Back again, at last… Fyre took everything over for the last few months, but I sent it to my lovely editor, Katherine, two days ago and am waiting to hear what she thinks! Then I will have another look at it in a few weeks, when I have had a little bit of space to sort things out in my head.

So, I will be back answering questions next week – but before then I am off to the Lit Fest inCologne! I will be there this Sunday, 18th March at 3pm in the Commedia Theatre, talking about Darke. I will be reading in English and with David Fermer reading in German. www.litcologne.de

back soon!

Letters from Angie Sage

Hi,

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas – yes, I know that was ages ago, but time has speeded up here and suddenly it is getting towards the end of january.

But I am back online! eek – have had BIG problems with the internet but now all is great again after days of a wonderful technician trying all kinds of modems and STUFF. So I shall get back to Ask Angie 4 forthwith. BUT … because I am still writing FYRE (only 6 more chapters to g0!) if you ask loads of questions I may cheat for the next couple of months and only answer one or two easy ones.

And for everyone in the UK – I went to Bloomsbury (my UK Publishers) last week and saw the most amazing new cover for the paperback of MAGYK. They are going to re-do all the paperback covers and there will be a big re-launch in July. It’s brilliant. And watch out for Sep Heap in Bin Weevils too!

Ok- back to work, have a nice January and lucky you in australia and New Zealand. Up here it’s cooooooold!

Angie

Letters from Angie Sage

Hello,

I am really sorry I have not been online for the last month or so. It’s been crazily busy here and I have had to concentrate on … well, you know the title now … FYRE.

It’s like all Septimus books, I can think normally until I get to the last quarter and then I have to hibernate. I have a lot of sympathy with tortoises. SO I have been writing and concentrating on Sep and all the stuff that is happening there and not gone out into the big wide world very much at all.

I will try and keep up with posts, but I will be slo … o … o … w until FYRE is done. And then – wow.

For those of you who have a Kindle, Darke is part of their 12 days of Christmas special offer – so you can get a really good value download.

So here’s wishing you all a wonderful MidWinter Feast, a great Christmas and a very Septimus New Year!

Letters from Angie Sage

It’s back to work! Revising book seven, going all the way back to the beginning and working out what should go where. All the subtleties and little bits and pieces that don’t always happen first time around – or even second – well, now I have to start really thinking about them.

So if my replies to Ask Angie are a little slow, you can blame Marcia. I do. You can add Marcellus Pye to that as well.

So… Heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s back to work I go. And yes, I am allowed to sing that because I am only 5 foot tall.

Happy Autumn -or Fall – or Spring…

Angie

letters from Angie Sage

Hello all,

Another event! This time in sunny (or possibly rainy) Taunton, not far away from where I live. The lovely people at Brendon Bookshop have got Taunton’s own Literary Festival up and running and I will be at St George’s School, TA1 3NR tomorrow at 4.30. I’ll be reading from Darke and talking about Septimus & co. I still have seven dragonny things to give away to the first seven people who tell me the password that Marcia gives Tertius Fume in Queste. You can find it in Chapter 8: The Vaults. Enough clues… see you there, I hope!

Letters from Angie Sage

Hi,

I am off to London tomorrow and then flying to Hamburg on Wednesday. So, I will see you all at the Hamburg Harbour Front festival on Thursday at 4pm. I will be in the Imperial Theatre, Reeperbahn 5 and will be reading something from Darke and answering questions! This is the first time I will be out with Darke and I am really looking forward to it. Oh, yes …. and don’t forget – the first 7 people who tell me the Password that Marcia gives to Tertius Fume in Queste will get something dragonny. Something nice – not the kind of something that you would get from Spit Fyre. See you in Hamburg!

MAGYK Movie News

Things so far:

About five years ago, Warner Brothers purchased an option to buy the Septimus Heap series. This meant that they had time to work out how they were going to do the first movie, MAGYK, and indeed whether they were going to do it at all. As I understand it, movie studios option quite a few books, but that does not mean the books will necessarily be made into movies. Many fall by the wayside.

The contract agreed that the option for Septimus Heap was to be renewed after 18 months and then again after another 18 months. Warner Brothers renewed at both these stages and then asked for extra time so that they could get a really good presentation together. The presentation would consist of the screenplay (which is the script plus lots of stage direction) and also some visuals. These would show the general visual feel of the movie and would also show the landscape and specific areas, like the Castle and the Marram Marshes. The backgrounds will be computer generated and the studio working on these is Industrial Light and Magic, part of Lucasfilms. This is a really fantastic studio! We also understand, though we are not totally sure, that the action may well be image capture (think Avatar).

Along the way MAGYK the movie had an amazing piece of good fortune – David Frankel agreed to be director and also pilot MAGYK through the early, pre green-light stages. David is a whiz with scripts and characters and is a really talented director.

The last piece of news we had was a few months ago, when Warner Brothers exercised their option to purchase the series—which means they purchased the rights to make movies based on all seven books. Purchasing an option is a big commitment by a movie studio and it takes us through to another stage.

The future:

The next step will be for the movie to be given the green light. This happens when the studio have the finance in place for the film and are ready to go. It means that the movie will be made. We are not green lit yet … but we do hope this may happen soon.

I know lots of you would love to be in the movie, but whether Warner Brothers have open auditions or not is completely up to them. Casting will not take place until MAGYK gets the green light. Please, please understand that the movie studio is casting the movie, not me! If I hear anything about what they intend to do about auditions – and when we get the green light I promise I will ask – I will post it here. And Tweet it! And send it out throughout the land by Message Rat. So as soon as I hear, you will hear too.

Letters from Angie Sage (17)

Hi Everyone,

Ok, I have re-read Magyk, Flyte, Physik, Queste and Syren. I have made notes. I have made notes on my notes. Twice. Last week I read and edited up to where I have got to so far with book 7 (Chapter 16).

I have also: tidied my workroom, sorted out the bookshelves, answered fan letters, weeded the tortoise pen and now there are no more excuses. Now I have to get down to some serious writing.

So I need to ask a favour: on Ask Angie can you ask no more than one or two questions? Or just leave a comment – you don’t have to ask anything if you just want to say hello. I will always say hello back! I love hearing from you so please don’t stop – just not tooooo many questions all at once… because I am going to have to go back into writing mode once more and get things done!

Hope you are all having a great summer (or winter down south),

Angie

Letters from Angie Sage (16)

Hello!

DARKE is out!  Well, it’s out in the USA and we in the UK are having to be patient for a bit longer. (OK, a lot longer.) I know some people here are buying the US edition on Amazon and have asked what the difference is. Well, it is a little different from the UK edition in that it is in American English, has a different board cover – a plain colour with symbols pressed into it, which I think looks great, and it also has those lovely untrimmed pages. So the choice is yours…

Apart from hoping DARKE is going to do really, really well, I am getting on with Book 7 now and hoping to be halfway through by the time DARKE comes out here in the UK. When it is published here I’ll be travelling around the country doing lots of signings – really looking forward to that too.

So, on behalf of all of us in the UK I want to ask a big favour (I know Shauki has already posted this): please don’t give away anything in DARKE on the Ask Angie sections – not until October. Just so that people can still enjoy reading it in October, not knowing what’s going to happen. Thank you! Have a nice summer (or winter in Oz).

Angie

Letters from Angie Sage (15)

Hi everyone,
We’ve got some movie news! (You heard it here first!)
Karen Rosenfelt, the producer, has said that:

They will be shooting the test at Industrial Light and Magic in the first and second week of May. It will probably take about 12 weeks to finish the test, since there is a lot of CGI. Rick Carter just joined the project as the production designer. Rick has worked on movies such as BACK TO THE FUTURE, JURASSIC PARK, WAR OF THE WORLDS and AVATAR. The studio is very enthusiastic about the project!

This is great as it brings the film closer to being give the green light (the go-ahead).
Note to all aspiring actors: this does not mean Warners will be doing any casting yet. This won’t happen until the movie is green lit.
So … let’s wait and see and wish it well,

Angie

Letters from Angie Sage (14)

Hi all,
I’m on Chapter 4 of book 7 now, which is a little weird, really. It is hard to believe that I’m on the last one. But I don’t think it will be the end of Septimus – I still have a few ideas for Septimus books outside the main series.
Meanwhile, Stanley has discovered Twitter and taken to it like a duck to water – or a rat to a drain. You can catch him on @StanleyMsgRat and if you want to find me I’m @AngieSageAuthor, but I don’t talk as much as Stanley. But then, who does?

Happy Spring (almost)
Angie
